Dr. Ingrid Katz, who began her role as director in January 2026, opened the event and outlined priorities for the institute’s next chapter.

Over Memorial Day weekend in 2024, I quietly set out on a project to write about local history, intending to publish every Sunday on TownHistory.org — one essay each week. Without making a formal announcement or setting expectations, I committed to exploring the places, people, documents, and stories that shape the past of our community. And since Memorial Day last year, I have not missed a single week.

During Yale’s spring break, President Peter Salovey is traveling in Africa, his third visit to the continent as the university’s leader, reinforcing Yale’s commitment to global collaboration and extending the university’s outreach to foster educational partnerships. The trip, which includes visits to Côte d'Ivoire and Rwanda, marks a broadening of this outreach to cultivate new and ongoing collaborations with Francophone African countries, with a focus on issues of global importance.
