Burglary at UTRGV stadium under investigation, suspects still at large

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The University of Texas Rio Grande Police Department is investigating a burglary that occurred at the UTRGV Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium in Edinburg after the Fourth of July, police announced Monday. According to UTRGV police, two male juveniles were detained and charged. Four other males escaped at the scene. On Sunday at approximately 10:07 p.m., video footage observed by UTRGV Police revealed six males entering the stadium and a suite without permission.

Judge denies bail for Alton man accused of killing family

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A 19-year-old Alton man accused of killing several family members was denied bond on Monday afternoon. The judge said Guarav Chopra is a flight risk. Chopa is accused of fatally shooting his father, mother and grandmother inside their Alton home on June 16. Police say Chopra also tried to kill his brother but missed when he shot at him. Gaurav Chopra, 19, of Alton, attends court on Monday, July 6 bail hearing.
