1 Introduction Digestive processes in the stomach can be divided into two main steps: mechanical and chemical breakdown (Bornhorst and Singh 2014). Mechanical breakdown involves processes such as crushing, fracturing, and squeezing and is caused by the deformation of the food arising from interaction with the contracting stomach wall and the applied fluid stresses (Bornhorst et al. 2016).

Deformation, mechanical breakdown, and flow of soft solid foods in the stomach Mechanical changes to solid foods in the stomach are crucial aspects of processes for regulating nutrient bioavailability, satiety, and glycaemic response after a meal. However, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood.

The above protocol outlines key steps to generate a novel finite element geometric model of cardiomyocyte ultrastructure. The method enables computational fusion of different microscopy (or, in principle, other data) modalities to develop a more comprehensive computational model of cardiomyocyte dynamics that includes details of spatial cell architecture. There is currently no other protocol available to create such a model of a cardiomyocyte. Step 1 outlines a protocol for perfusion fixation.
