Showkat Nanda is a journalist, documentary photographer and educator based in Kashmir. He is a Fulbright fellow and holds a master’s in journalism from University of Kashmir and a master's in photojournalism from University of Missouri J-School, Columbia.
His work, which mainly focuses on politics, gender and human vulnerability, has won numerous awards including grants from National Geographic Society, Magnum Foundation and Henry Luce Foundation.
Showkat is a Missouri Photo Workshop alumnus and a member of Diversify Photo and Everyday Projects.
Aside from his journalistic pursuits, he has been teaching college and university students for more than a decade. He is the founder of AKS Photo Workshop where he trains aspiring photographers and visual storytellers.
He presently works as a contributing reporter and photographer for The New York Times.
