The year that began with losses and griefs due to the pandemic, ended with the joy of FIFA World Cup 2022. We trained ourselves to be more kind to our mental and physical health, to find joy and pleasure in little things that came our way. At FII, we spent 2022 working from home, only meeting our team members through the screen.

As a result of the recent economic slump, layoffs, lockdown measures, and the risk of sickness caused by COVID-19, self-employment and remote jobs, such as online teaching, has become an increasingly enticing alternative. Online classes have changed the teaching sector a lot, and they created lots of jobs. Teaching people from different parts of the world to use the internet is a great and workable approach to generating income.

A few days ago I was helping my son revise his English lessons. There was a unit in his course book which had a story called ‘The Stolen Cake’ based on the theme of ‘The Detective and Crime’. The unit used ample illustrations so that children could be sensitised to the job of a detective, the idea of tools that a detective uses and a crime scene. Then came this story – A girl called Mandy brings some cake to school only to find it gone by the snack break after her sports period.
