Two Sundre umpires receive lifetime achievement awards

SUNDRE – A couple of Sundre umpires who combined have officiated local ball games for some 60 years were each recently recognized with lifetime achievement awards. “Paul Isaac and Connie Anderson have both been umping for SMB for 25 and 36 years,” said Samantha Speight, Sundre Minor Ball president. “Our association thinks it’s very important to recognize our umps because they play such a vital role in allowing the games to happen,” Speight told the Albertan.

Sundre council gives first reading to recycling fee rate change

SUNDRE – Town of Sundre residents might eventually see the recycling fee dropped from the monthly utility bill issued by the municipality. And they’ll not only continue to receive the curbside service they’ve grown accustomed to, but even more regular pickups as well. The municipality is moving ahead to become compliant with provincial government changes to how recycling is handled in Alberta.

Wetland advocates seek stay on Mountain View County's beaver cone plan

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – A grassroots group of residents concerned by the loss of wetlands throughout the region is seeking a stay in plans Mountain View County has to install a culvert cone southwest of Sundre. Approximately two dozen people including some children gathered in Nitchi Valley southwest of Sundre near what they call Corral Pond on Tuesday, June 30 for a peaceful demonstration intended to draw attention to the importance of protecting wetlands, said Karen Fahrlander.
