Our 2025 AZ Awards Gala at the Evergreen Brick Works marked a major milestone - as we celebrated the 15th anniversary of our international competition by fêting 26 winners and 60 finalists! These projects, interiors and products accomplish much more than formal and aesthetic achievement: They pair great design with ingenious problem solving.

Thoughtful details and a careful consideration of light gave this Portland home an exterior renovation and connection to the outdoors. When Patrick Seehafer discovered this Portland home on the Internet while living abroad, he knew even without seeing it in person that it was the kind of property he and his family could live on long term. “It was recessed off the street and set lower, so it really gave it a suburban-recluse vibe that we were drawn to immediately,” he says.

The search for new space began with several questions, “How can our studio evolve from a dedicated workspace to a playground for the art and design community? Where can we find a space to integrate gardens, an event venue, and a fabrication shop, as well as our studio?” A three-year search turned up a triangle-shaped corner lot in the city’s Northwest Industrial area consisting of two steel buildings and an adjacent storage/work yard.
