Each year, the Royal Ambassadors program invites several young women from Red Wing and Goodhue County to spend the summer building connections, growing professional skills, and trying new things. To be eligible, candidates must first receive a sponsorship from a local business.

The novel takes place in Black Point, WI, a fictional small town facing a dwindling population and flooding amplified by climate change. Seventeen year old Lucia Sorenson is trying to keep the town alive. When a group of strangers buy the local Black Point Hotel, they begin to find things that the townspeople don’t want found, and Lucia must grapple with her hometown’s dark secrets.

Sketches of Minnesota stops in Red Wing

An evening of food and humor at the Red Wing Public Library last Thursday gave community members an opportunity to reflect on their town. The evening was part of the third annual Sketches of Minnesota tour. Formed by a partnership between the Minnesota Humanities Center and educational improv company Danger Boat Productions, the tour visits Minnesota communities to facilitate discussion among community members. Participants first got to know each other over dinner provided by Fiesta Mexicana.
