Ramping up reuse of construction materials

The construction and demolition industries send a massive volume of materials to landfills, but reuse can make a big difference, panelists said at the Northeast Recycling Council’s (NERC) Annual Rethink Resource Use Conference in Plainsboro, New Jersey on Wednesday. In New York City, 60% of the total waste stream is construction and demolition (C&D) waste, said Kelly Tigera, the founder and CEO of Orbit, an online marketplace for reclaimed construction materials launched in 2005 in the Big Apple.

UC Boulder launches dining reuse program

The University of Colorado Boulder has launched a plastic-free, reusable dishware program with Usefull in two locations on campus. Students and guests of the Alferd Packer Grill in the University Memorial Center and SEEC Café in the Sustainability, Energy and Environment Community building can now get fresh meals in reusable stainless-steel containers. It’s the first campus in the state to offer the program.
