In a season that started with College Football Playoff hopes, the LSU football team is off to a disappointing start. On September 1, LSU’s hopes were sky-high. The long-term goal was a College Football Playoff berth, but also thrown in there was competing with Alabama and Georgia to make the Playoff as the SEC Champion. The path to success began with a date with Florida State in Orlando. A win and LSU football is off and running, maybe propelled into the top five.

When the news broke a few weeks ago that the Pac-12’s four corner schools were leaving the conference for the Big 12, the move shook the entire college football foundation. Now, weeks later, four schools are left to pick up the pieces of the damage done by Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah and stitch things together. Stanford, Cal, Washington State, and Oregon State football are now trying to figure out what the future holds for them.

2023 kicks off a huge season of change at the Group of Five level. The age of the BCS Buster are long gone, but they set the stage for the future of college football. Teams like Boise State, Utah, and TCU led the charge in getting the “little guys” noticed at the big-time level. Now, there is nothing to bust. The Group of Five has an automatic bid into the New Year’s Six bowl games. They’ve even managed to parlay that into a College Football Playoff appearance thanks to undefeated Cincinnati in 2021.
