Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... VIRGINIA BEACH — An Oceanfront parking garage with more than 1,000 spaces moved one step closer to fruition on Tuesday. The City Council agreed to allocate a maximum of $1.9 million from a resort area parking fund for the first phase of a new parking garage across from the convention center. The money will pay for initial design and engineering to determine the maximum cost, schedule and leasing strategy.

The deal was finalized on Monday, according to Doug Henkel, broker for CBRE. Connecticut-based HEI Hotels & Resorts will manage the Cavalier campus, which includes the historic Cavalier Hotel, the Cavalier Beach Club, the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront Resort and the Embassy Suites by Hilton.
