Stimulation modulates gene-linked cell assemblies in the human brain
Abstract Reshaping cortical circuits through stimulation represents an emerging therapy for the restoration of cognitive function1,2,3,4,5, yet the biological mechanisms that underlie its effects remain largely unexplored in humans.
Cytokine-driven glycosphingolipid metabolism modulates endoplasmic reticulum calcium homeostasis in primary human renal mesangial cells
1 Introduction Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that causes heterogeneous patterns of inflammation in the human body through generation of autoantibodies and deposition of immune complexes. Development of renal disease or lupus nephritis (LN) leads to increased proteinuria, renal fibrosis, and eventual organ failure. LN occurs in approximately half of patients diagnosed with SLE (1), and only 50% of LN patients respond well to standard therapies (2–4).
ST2/IL-33 axis blockade inhibits regulatory T cell cytotoxicity towards CD8 T cells in the leukemic niche - Nature Communications
Abstract Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients present with CD8 exhaustion signatures, and pharmacologic inhibition of checkpoints can have therapeutic benefit. The alarmin IL-33 and its receptor STimulation-2 (ST2) promote activation of tissue-regulatory T cells (Treg cells) and accelerate malignant progression in solid tumors, but their role in leukemia remains unclear.
NPAS4 supports cocaine-conditioned cues in rodents by controlling the cell type-specific activation balance in the nucleus accumbens - Nature Communications
Abstract Powerful associations that link drugs of abuse with cues in the drug-paired environment often serve as prepotent relapse triggers. Drug-associated contexts and cues activate ensembles of nucleus accumbens (NAc) neurons, including D1-class medium spiny neurons (MSNs) that typically promote, and D2-class MSNs that typically oppose, drug seeking.
EphB1 controls proper long-range cortical axon guidance through a cell non-autonomous role in GABAergic cells
Abstract EphB1 is required for proper guidance of cortical axon projections during brain development, but how EphB1 regulates this process remains unclear. We show here that EphB1 conditional knockout (cKO) in GABAergic cells (Vgat-Cre or Dlx1/2-Cre), but not in cortical excitatory neurons (Emx1-Cre), reproduced the cortical axon guidance defects observed in global EphB1 KO mice.

Priamo Food Technologies transports traditional mozzarella-making out of Italy for Fratelli Amodio
A complete mozzarella ball processing line supplied by Priamo (part of the Della Toffola Group in Italy) is helping Neapolitan cheesemaker Fratelli Amodio supply overseas consumers with the same taste, texture, and quality expected from an Italian-made cheese, without the added export and transportation costs associated with manufacturing in Italy. Priamo’s cutting-edge solution covers every stage of the mozzarella-making process.
Association Between Genetic Risks for Obesity and Working Memory in Children
Introduction Accumulating evidence shows that obesity is associated with deficits in neurocognitive functioning, such as deficits in working memory in children (Smith et al., 2011; Cornier et al., 2013; Crone and Steinbeis, 2017). Obesity is associated with adiposity, cellular stress, and excessive inflammation, all of which can lead to insulin resistance and cerebral structural alteration (Unamuno et al., 2018).

Evolution of DNA methylation in the human brain
Abstract DNA methylation is a critical regulatory mechanism implicated in development, learning, memory, and disease in the human brain. Here we have elucidated DNA methylation changes during recent human brain evolution. We demonstrate dynamic evolutionary trajectories of DNA methylation in cell-type and cytosine-context specific manner.

Chromatin Decondensation by FOXP2 Promotes Human Neuron Maturation and Expression of Neurodevelopmental Disease Genes
Highlights • FOXP2 regulates neurodevelopmental disease genes • FOXP2 closes chromatin, repressing genes that maintain a progenitor-like state • FOXP2 interacts with NFIA and/or NFIB opening chromatin in a DNA-binding-independent manner • FOXP2, NFIA, and NFIB are co-expressed in early maturing excitatory subplate neurons Summary Forkhead box P2 (FOXP2) is a transcription factor expressed in the human brain that peaks during fetal development, and disruption in its ability to regulate...

Restricted Hematopoietic Progenitors and Erythropoiesis Require SCF from Leptin Receptor+ Niche Cells in the Bone Marrow
Highlights • c-kit +-restricted progenitors in bone marrow require SCF from leptin receptor + cells • c-kit +-restricted progenitors in bone marrow do not require SCF from endothelial cells • Erythropoiesis in bone marrow requires SCF from leptin receptor + niche cells • Early erythroid progenitors localize adjacent to perisinusoidal leptin receptor + cells Summary Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are maintained in a perivascular niche in bone marrow, in which leptin receptor + (LepR) stromal...
