Creatine kinase (CK) has been associated with reduced inflammation in obesity while inflammation is associated with obesity-related cardiovascular diseases. We investigated the relationship between CK and high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in a general population. CK and hs-CRP were measured in the population-based Tromsø study that included entire birth cohorts and random samples of citizens between 30–87 years of age. The analyses were performed sex-stratified in 5969 men and 6827 women.

In this study, we found no protective effect of fatty fish intake or fish oil supplements on atherosclerosis assessed by carotid ultrasound. If anything, the association was positive. At baseline (Table 4), we found that lean fish consumption, if anything, reduced the odds of having carotid plaque.

Background and Purpose— Ischemic stroke incidence has declined in industrialized countries the last decades, with possible exception for the youngest age groups. We estimated age- and sex-specific trends in incidence and case fatality of first-ever ischemic stroke between 1977 and 2010 in a Norwegian municipality. Results—There were 1214 first-ever ischemic strokes within a total follow-up time of 611 176 person-years. The overall age- and sex-adjusted incidence decreased by 24% in 1995 to 2010.
