DOCUMENTARY: COMING TOGETHER AS ONE
The new documentary One to One: John & Yoko offers an illuminating look into John Lennon’s post-Beatles activism with his partner Yoko Ono. It captures an early 1970s’ climate that was charged with political unrest and media saturation. Rather than perpetuate the simplified myth of Lennon as a lone revolutionary figure, the film spotlights Ono’s equally influential role in their shared artistic and social endeavours.

She was known for many things: she was a pop star, an actress and a muse. But she was probably best known for her voice. When she first entered the world of pop in 1964, her high-pitched tones rang with mellifluous vibrato.

But she was probably best known for her voice. When she first entered the world of pop in 1964, her high-pitched tones rang with mellifluous vibrato. As she grew older and lived an increasingly excessive lifestyle, she developed a rasp – a quality borne of her unique experiences.

In honour of Taylor Swift’s three concerts at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium this summer, the University of Liverpool hosted Tay Day (Liverpool’s Version), an academic conference on Taylor Swift and her music on June 12. Each presentation explored Swift from a different critical perspective. While it was an academic event, there were fun pop aspects such as friendship bracelets, attendees in sparkles – and even a round of “critical karaoke”.
