Two killed, 20 hurt in LIE bus collision

Two people were killed and at least 20 injured Monday night after a bus overturned on the Long Island Expressway in Blissville, leading to a five-car pileup. Police responded to a report of the crash near the parkway’s eastbound Exit 16, at Greenpoint Avenue, at around 11:45 p.m. The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad found that a 35-year-old man was driving a coach bus westbound on the LIE when it collided with a second car, which then crashed into a third.

Rinaldi charged with forgery for AI posts

Jonathan Rinaldi, who lost the June 23 primary against Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi (D-Forest Hills), was arrested for forgery June 24, after his social media pages shared AI-generated images of false news reports and nonexistent endorsements during his failed City Council bid last year. Rinaldi, 47, entered the race to unseat Councilmember Lynn Schulman (D-Forest Hills) in January 2025.

Academic report on IBX prompts ire

A Hunter College report on transit-oriented development along the planned Interborough Express has some neighbors up in arms. But both the city and the school say it was simply an academic exercise. The project, done by Urban Policy & Planning graduate students during the fall 2025 semester, “addresses the transformative opportunities” presented by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s proposed 14-mile light rail line linking Queens and Brooklyn.
