I am a Communication and Media Studies PhD student at the University of Oregon, USA, I am interested in studying African indigenous storytelling and its influence of how journalists report news in a digitized environment. Fore more than 10 years, I worked as a features writer, contributing editor and online writer at The New Vision newspaper in Uganda, which is now part of the Vision Group multimedia company. This recognition went out to stories captured and edited using only mobile devices. Using a Galaxy Tab A tablet, I told a story on the challenges of accessing education for children with special needs through the experience of a young crippled girl. My story was one of those recognized at this competition held in Galway Ireland.

African Media Initiative Zimeo Excellence In Media Award

2015 - Education reporting

The Inaugural ZIMEO award recognized compelling and innovative story-telling from several entries submitted by journalists in print, broadcast and digital media across the African continent. I won the Education category award for a Feature series that I did on missed education opportunities for children with special needs in Uganda.

I received the inaugural African Centre for Media Excellence(ACME) award for Exceptional Journalism. I was recognized for exhibiting extensive knowledge of my reporting beat, providing evidence of growth over the period of assessment, consistently producing quality work, and being highly regarded by others in the profession.

The United Nations Development Journalism award

2013 - Feature story writing

This award recognized stories that best represented the progress made and challenges Uganda faced in implementing the Millennium Development Goals. I was recognized for writing a feature story that articulated the challenges in implementing a new Senior Citizen Grant scheme (SAGE) by the Government. This story was told through the eyes of the elderly in different parts of the country.

CNN Multichoice African Journalist award

2012 - Arts and Culture reporting category-Highly Commended in the

This award recognized the best journalism in Africa by awarding journalists that excelled in reporting on selected beats every year. Each year, from 2005 to 2015, CNN awards recognized entries of outstanding work from print, broadcast and digital media from about 30 journalists carefully selected out of a pool of over 1500 submissions from Anglophone, Lusophone and Franco phone Africa media organizations. I received the Highly Commended prize in the arts and culture reporting category for my story about the desecration and neglect by Ugandans and the Ugandan government of the Independence Monument-, probably the country's most iconic work of art.

This award is offered to applicants that show potential for leadership in their communities and career advancement. I received this scholarship to study for a Masters Degree in International Journalism at the University of Leeds in the UK. I graduated with a Distinction.
