LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The South Plains and West Texas will see a brief window for thunderstorms this evening before hot and dry weather takes over through the holiday weekend. The chance of late-in-the-day thunderstorms returns next week. Evening Storms The afternoon thunderstorms near and east of the Caprock will die down early this evening. Until then, they may produce strong wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall. A few storms are possible Thursday evening.

Additional thunderstorms are expected late Tuesday and Wednesday. A drier but hot pattern is anticipated as we move into the holiday weekend.
