Sheriff’s office receives Homeland Security funding

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office has received $197,500 in funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Sheriff Mike Slupe said he plans to use about $100,000 for a new vehicle and liability insurance for deputies working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and use the remaining $97,500 to buy new tasers and other equipment for deputies. He said he planned on including the purchase of three department vehicles in the 2027 county budget.

New software could let Butler County property owners know of new documents filed in their name

Butler County Courthouse Seb Foltz/Butler Eagle Butler County residents will soon be able to sign up to have alerts sent when documents are recorded in their names via the Butler County Recorder of Deeds Office. On Wednesday, the county commissioners approved a $14,500 price quote from DTS, Document Technology Systems, Ltd., of Ohio for AlertMe software. The quote includes a $1,400 maintenance fee. The money for the software will come from the office’s records improvement fund.

Butler County Prison seeking inmate technology proposals

The Butler County Prison Board voted Tuesday, June 16, to advertise for proposals for inmate technology, which includes phone service, tablets and video visits. The board is seeking proposals because the contract with the current provider, Smart Communications, expires Jan. 24; and new rules from the Federal Communications Commission require lower phone use rates for inmates and reduce commissions for prisons.
