Antitrade sentiment in Congress is working in China’s favor. The Generalized System of Preferences, or GSP, lapsed on Dec. 31, 2020, and lawmakers have failed to renew it. There’s nothing more self-defeating than raising costs on China’s competitors if the goal is to reduce economic dependence on China. Congress established the GSP with the Trade Act of 1974, and it has a long history of strong bipartisan support.

Statewide, Californians used 5% less water than during the same month last year, up from 1.8% savings in July. Zone 7 Water Agency and the Association of California Water Agencies take the drought and Gov. Gavin Newsom's call for 15% voluntary water conservation very seriously.
