WASHINGTON (7News) — Spring 2026 went down in the record books as one of the top warmest and driest on record in the Washington, D.C. area. The season also featured several drastic temperature changes, with several cold fronts prompting large temperature drops and increases. Meteorological spring runs from March 1 through May 31, allowing for more consistent weather record keeping, due to changing dates with astronomical spring.

WASHINGTON (7News) — The last ten days brought much needed rainfall to the D.C. area as drought conditions continue. However, the recent rainfall made progress with drought improvement, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor that was released Thursday. Severe drought was eliminated for areas northwest of I-95, leaving only moderate drought conditions. Severe and extreme drought continues in D.C., southern Maryland and central Virginia, due to less rainfall from the last ten days.
