Amble Live in Belfast
Amble have come a long way from their humble beginning, playing cover songs in pubs for fun and a few free pints. Their meteoric rise continues to reach new heights, and tonight, they are playing to a capacity 11,000 people. I must confess that I am a recent convert to their music, having been introduced to them by my son, but ‘Socrates Smiled’ has been an earworm, in the nicest possible way, ever since.

Interview with Robert Forster
FT: How’s the tour going? RF: The tour’s going very well. We have been on a bit of a break over the weekend, and we start again in London tonight. It’s been great, we’ve been traveling by train, and there’s been train chaos, but besides that, it’s being well good on stage and it’s great meeting and talking to people. My son Louis is with me playing guitar and bass. We’ve never done this before, and it’s really wonderful and exciting to be playing together, it’s a unique thing.

The Book of Absolution - Anthony Toner
One of the great strengths of this artist has always been his observations on life and his poetic delivery. On a release full of reminiscence and nostalgia, there are poignant moments balanced with humour. ‘The Protection of The King’ is a fun memory of his parents’ poster of Elvis Presley, where other parents might have had “Wedding groups and landscapes”.

Ron Sexsmith live at Liberty Hall Theatre, Dublin
"Sorry for the delay in the gig. The flight took two years", quips Ron Sexsmith at the beginning of a hugely entertaining, and at times emotional, night. There is a hugely endearing quality to Ron. His shyness on stage remains, yet with that simple one-liner, he was able to win over the Dublin crowd. The crowd won over, he then proceeded to wow them with a performance of beautifully crafted, poignant, and quite charming songs, solo on guitar and keyboard, with no safety net.

“You Wanna Know What Really Happened?”: Steven Van Zandt on Making, and Ending, The Sopranos
On The Sopranos, Jimmy Gandolfini wasn’t handling being a leading man very well. It just wasn’t his natural inclination. He was a character actor, a great one, and that’s what he liked doing. He wasn’t used to the long dialogues he had to do regularly with Lorraine Bracco, who played his psychiatrist. In film, you might do two pages of script a day. In TV, you might do five or six or seven. And half or more of those were Jimmy! One paragraph is a lot to memorize. Try it.

Who wrote the book of rock?
I’d got some managers, the first I’d ever had in my life. They were like, ‘Did you ever write a book?’ I said, ‘Well, I actually gave it a shot 10, 15 years ago, and it just didn’t feel right.’ At the time I couldn’t figure the whole thing out. I had no way of ending even that particular chapter of my life. But then I suddenly had my most productive three years yet in 2017, 2018 and 2019. It took me completely by surprise: it was bizarre.

Steven Van Zandt has long declared his love for The Beatles and has said it was the appearance of the Fab Four on the Ed Sullivan Show that set him on his path to a career in music. Steven Van Zandt: Teachers make great audiences, probably because they never get out
I’m at the airport in Salt Lake City, waiting for the snow to stop so we can get up to Vancouver. I’ve been on the road with the Disciples of Soul since a month before Thanksgiving. This tour, the Soulfire Teachers Solidarity Tour, has been going on and off for a year and a half now, and it ends on December 16. The road is a lifestyle I’ve gotten used to. I miss my wife, I miss my dog. But we don’t go out so long, three or four weeks at the most before going back home.
