6 children killed in roof collapse in KP's Shangla

SHANGLA: Six children from the same family were killed and another was injured when the roof of a mud house collapsed in Shangla district’s Alpuri tehsil, Rescue 1122 said on Tuesday. Rescue 1122 Shangla Spokesperson Rasool Khan Sharif told Dawn that seven children were buried under the debris when the roof of the house collapsed early morning in Rahimabad Bassi area. He said the rescue team responded immediately to the emergency call, began the operation, and recovered the bodies within an hour.

The red Xs appeared on walls around Sahil Maseeh’s neighbourhood one morning in March. They were visible on key points around their locality. No warning. No explanation. Just a cross in red paint, crude but deliberate, with CDA scrawled alongside — the signature of demolition. Sahil lives in Allama Iqbal Colony in Islamabad’s Sector G-7, a neighbourhood that houses more than 1,000 Christian families. He has worked as a sanitary worker for the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for over two decades.

Rescue 1122 says operation underway to help those affected by heavy snowfall in KP

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Bilal Faizi said on Friday that a comprehensive rescue operation was ongoing to help the people affected by heavy snowfall in the province. “The operation is ongoing in Tirah valley, Painda Cheena, Dawatoi and Bagh Maidan on the directives of Rescue 1122 director general,” he said in a statement. “Twenty-three operational vehicles of Rescue 1122 and rescue teams comprising more than 100 personnel are taking part in the rescue operation,” he said.

I received this award for my story titled “Braving hostile terrains and attitudes, the women at the heart of KP’s Covid-19 battle” published in Dawn. It was about the plight of lady health workers who worked tirelessly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
