Shangla mourns 28 miners killed in Balochistan coal mine accident

SHANGLA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district is mourning the deaths of 28 young coal miners, including 23 residents of Mian Kaly, who were killed in a gas explosion at a coal mine on the outskirts of Quetta on Thursday. The Shangla Coal Mine Workers Association said that following the deaths of 23 miners from Mian Kaly, almost every household in the village was mourning the loss of a family member.

Three tourists die after boat capsizes at Saifullah Lake in KP’s Kalam region: rescue officials

SWAT: A boat carrying tourists capsized at Saifullah Lake in Kalam, Upper Swat, leaving three people dead and seven others injured. According to Rescue 1122, the control room received information about the incident and immediately launched an emergency response. Rescue teams and ambulances were dispatched to the scene without delay. Initial reports said several people were missing after the accident.

I bagged second prize in the top three out of 10 finalists for the award. I received this award for my story titled “Braving hostile terrains and attitudes, the women at the heart of KP’s Covid-19 battle” published in Dawn. It was about the plight of lady health workers who worked tirelessly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
