PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio (WJW) — Relatives of a Geauga County father of four shot and killed early Thursday, July 23, at a Put-in-Bay bar remembered him as a “source of strength.” The shooting happened just after midnight at Mr. Ed’s Bar & Grille, 272 Delaware Ave. The victim was shot multiple times and died at the scene, according to police. A 21-year-old suspect is now behind bars.

MENTOR, Ohio (WJW) — A bat recently found in a Painesville home was confirmed to be infected with the rabies virus, Lake County General Health District announced on Thursday, July 23. It’s the first confirmed case of a rabid bat in Lake County since 2022, according to a news release. “Bats are beneficial, as they eat large numbers of flying insects; but bats may also be a source of rabies,” health district Supervisor Bert Mechenbier is quoted in the release.
