What was your first job as a journalist?
Sports Information Assitant at Carleton University
How is social media changing news?
It is changing how people consume news for sure. Instead of picking up a newspaper or turning on the tv people go straight to Twitter.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
By email is probably the easiest but nothing beats in-person interaction.
Who do you wish followed you?
Jeff Marek.
Why did you become a journalist?
My love of sports. I want to tell the stories of athletes and give people the stories of sports.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My story on the Carleton and University of Ottawa rivalry.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Put in work. If you put in the work good things will come.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime.
What's your favorite drink?
Depends on the setting. I'm a fan of Belgian wheat beers but I like a nice glass of whiskey on occasion.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Athletic. I love that I can follow all of my favourite sports teams in one place.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That sports reporters need to know sports. We are human interest reporters a lot of the time.
