Hippocampal subregion volume alterations at baseline and following antidepressant treatment in youth at high risk for bipolar disorder
Understanding hippocampal neurostructural alterations at baseline and following antidepressant treatment in high-risk youth, particularly within distinct subregions, is critical for elucidating bipolar disorder (BD) pathophysiology and treatment planning. In this prospective randomized clinical trial, 105 high-risk youth with a first-degree BD-I relative(s) and moderate to severe depression and/or anxiety disorder, along with 51 healthy controls (HCs), were recruited.
Functional brain abnormalities of cognitive impairments in schizophrenia indicating higher integration of working memory than other domains - Molecular Psychiatry
Abstract Brain functional alterations associated with overall cognitive impairments and specific cognitive domains defined by MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) and the similarities among them remain unclear in schizophrenia. Comprehensive literature review and meta-analyses of cognitive task fMRI studies were conducted to identify whole-brain differences between schizophrenia patients and healthy controls, and subgroup analyses were also conducted for each MCCB domain.
Associations among structural brain alterations, respiratory symptoms and cognitive impairment in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-related subclinical cognitive vulnerability: a multimodal neuroimaging study
Abstract Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a systemic condition that often results in cognitive impairment. Nevertheless, the central nervous system correlates of COPD-related cognitive decline are not well-defined, representing a critical knowledge gap. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship among respiratory symptoms, structural brain changes, and cognitive impairment in patients with COPD who have subclinical cognitive vulnerability (COPD-SCV).
Charting brain morphology in international healthy and neurological populations - Nature Neuroscience
|
Abstract Quantifying individual deviations in brain morphology from normative references is useful for understanding neurodiversity and facilitating personalized management of brain health. Here we report Chinese brain normative references using morphological imaging scans of 24,061 healthy volunteers from 105 sites, revealing later peak ages of lifespan neurodevelopmental milestones (1.2–8.9 years) than European/North American populations.

Regional cerebellar structural deficits distinguish psychostimulant‐free ADHD youth with and without familial risk for bipolar I disorder: a cross‐sectional morphometric analysis - Tang - Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry - Wiley Online Library
Introduction Bipolar I disorder (BD) typically emerges during late childhood and adolescence (Perlis et al., 2009), and often initially manifests with symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (Axelson et al., 2015; Singh, DelBello, Kowatch, & Strakowski, 2006; Tillman & Geller, 2006).
Rapid amyloid-β clearance and cognitive recovery through multivalent modulation of blood–brain barrier transport - Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy
Abstract The blood‒brain barrier (BBB) is a highly selective permeability barrier that safeguards the central nervous system (CNS) from potentially harmful substances while regulating the transport of essential molecules. Its dysfunction is increasingly recognized as a pivotal factor in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), contributing to the accumulation of amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques.
Distinct effects of early-stage and late-stage socioeconomic factors on brain and behavioral traits - Nature Neuroscience
Abstract Socioeconomic status (SES) is a time-varying multidimensional construct with ill-defined dimension-specific and age-specific effects on brain and behavior. We investigated these effects in 4,228 young adults. From 16 socioeconomic indicators, assessed for early (0–10 years) and late (>10 years) stages, we constructed family, provincial, family adverse and neighborhood adverse socioeconomic dimensions.

Improved patient identification by incorporating symptom severity in deep learning using neuroanatomic images in first episode schizophrenia - Neuropsychopharmacology
Abstract Brain alterations associated with illness severity in schizophrenia remain poorly understood. Establishing linkages between imaging biomarkers and symptom expression may enhance mechanistic understanding of acute psychotic illness. Constructing models using MRI and clinical features together to maximize model validity may be particularly useful for these purposes.

Cross-ancestry genome-wide association studies of brain imaging phenotypes - Nature Genetics
Abstract Genome-wide association studies of brain imaging phenotypes are mainly performed in European populations, but other populations are severely under-represented. Here, we conducted Chinese-alone and cross-ancestry genome-wide association studies of 3,414 brain imaging phenotypes in 7,058 Chinese Han and 33,224 white British participants.
Covariation of preadult environmental exposures, adult brain imaging phenotypes, and adult personality traits - Molecular Psychiatry
|
Abstract Exposure to preadult environmental exposures may have long-lasting effects on mental health by affecting the maturation of the brain and personality, two traits that interact throughout the developmental process. However, environment-brain-personality covariation patterns and their mediation relationships remain unclear.
