Rotational–translational failure mechanism of multi-layered soil slopes using upper bound limit analysis
Abstract This study presents a closed-form analytical approximation for the stability of multi-layered cohesive–frictional slopes based on a kinematically admissible upper-bound formulation. A three-block mechanism composed of two rotational log-spiral zones connected by a translational block moving parallel to the slope face is proposed to capture the compound rotational–translational failure patterns characteristic of multi-layered slopes.

Macro-Seismic Assessment for Residential Buildings Constructed in the Soviet Union Era in Almaty, Kazakhstan
Abstract : Southern and southeastern Kazakhstan is a region of intraplate seismicity characterized by several destructive earthquakes. Almaty, the largest metropolis in this region, has many structures with different construction materials and seismic-resistant systems. Among them, residential buildings constructed in the Soviet Union era (before the 1990s) may possess low seismic resisting capacities due to limited seismic design and detailing provisions.
Sediment Transport Patterns of Channels on Tidal Lowland
3. Numerical Analyses Results and Discussions Research on channel stability has been carried out under various scenarios to determine a suitable pattern for channels in tidal swamp areas. The stable criterion is that there is no erosion or sedimentation in the channel with equilibrium channel conditions. Although erosion and sedimentation occur, it is only a momentary material transfer to the channel without affecting the condition of the channel in general.
