Underrated in the wider eyes of the general audience, the epic was the King of Comics’ passion project. Originally based on his work for Marvel’s The Mighty Thor, Kirby wanted to wipe the slate clean with a Ragnarok-inspired storyline, killing off the Asgardians so a series of “New Gods” could be introduced to take their place.
