Frontiers | Comparison of the effects of different percentages of soy protein in the diet on patients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy: systematic reviews and network meta-analysis
1. Introduction The latest global diabetes map (1) released by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in 2021 revealed that the number of adult patients with diabetes (20–79 years old) worldwide has reached 537 million. Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common microvascular complication in patients with type 2 diabetes (2). Chronic hyperglycemia leads to the dysfunction of various cell types in the kidney and eventually leads to progressive renal failure (3).
Association between dietary trace minerals and pelvic inflammatory disease: data from the 2015-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys
1 Introduction Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a polymicrobial infection that generally occurs in the women’s genital tract and often leads to the impairment of the endometrium, oviduct, and ovaries (1). The clinical manifestations of PID include long-term infertility, extrauterine pregnancies, and chronic pelvic pain (2). The cause of PID is associated with many factors, including race, age, and smoking status (3). Young people and African or Caucasian people are especially prone to PID (4).
Fatty infiltration of the pancreas: a systematic concept analysis
1. Introduction Pancreatic fat infiltration was first reported in the scientific literature almost a century ago; however, despite the extensive research on FIP, much about this condition remains unknown. It is, therefore, imperative to regularly review the literature on pancreatic fat infiltration, with a particular emphasis on the diagnosis, consequences, and management of the disease.
Zinc supplementation alleviates hyperglycemia and associated metabolic abnormalities in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
The cause and effect relationship between diabetes and zinc is complex and unclear. This animal study has examined the potential of zinc supplementation in beneficial modulating hyperglycemia, insulin secretion, and metabolic abnormalities associated with diabetes. The study was conducted in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Groups of hyperglycemic rats were subjected to dietary interventions for 6 weeks with zinc supplementation (5 times and 10 times the normal level).
