We just learned about the SimCity-like Star Trek: Outposts Unknown game last month – and have even had the chance to try out a demo – and now the game has a release date and details on how you can play, along with a new trailer. A release date… and a sortof trailer The news comes from Gamescom over in Germany today, confirming the game’s October 20 release date on both Windows PC and Mac via Steam.

2003’s Star Trek: Elite Force II, a first-person shooter video and sequel to the popular Voyager-centric first entry in the series from 2000, are considered a high water mark for Star Trek gaming. And over two decades later, we are learning some fascinating details about the sequel, and how the events of 9/11 in 2001 set the game into a new direction, with the potential to star more of Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s bridge crew.

To boldly go... Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry’s son, Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, has been named as a judge in the Star Trek-inspired Future Vision XPRIZE film competition alongside StarTalk host and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. As our friends at TrekMovie reported back in March this year, the film competition wants to capture the spirit of Star Trek and inspire a new generation to look with hopeful eyes up to the stars.
