I’ve been chewing on a question lately: can a person hate a theology so much that the hatred itself becomes a kind of idol? Not idolatry in the cartoonish sense like bowing to a statue. I mean idolatry in the older, more accurate sense: letting something claim a centrality in your thoughts, your identity, your daily energy that shouldn’t belong to anything but God. Usually we think of that happening through devotion. But I don’t think devotion is the only door. Opposition can do it too.
