Cold-atom comagnetometry via optical control of spin states
Abstract Atomic-spin-based comagnetometers are powerful tools for precision sensing and tests of fundamental physics. Compared with the widely used gas-cell comagnetometer systems, cold-atom systems offer access to much shorter distance scales and allow the implementation of optical quantum control techniques. However, to realize long spin coherence times with cold atoms, it is necessary to use diamagnetic atoms and overcome decoherence induced by light shifts.
Minute-scale Schrödinger-cat state of spin-5/2 atoms - Nature Photonics
Abstract Quantum metrology with non-classical states offers a promising route to improved precision in physical measurements. The quantum effects of Schrödinger-cat superpositions or entanglements enable measurement uncertainties to reach below the standard quantum limit. However, the challenge of maintaining a long coherence time for such non-classical states often prevents full exploitation of the quantum advantage in metrology.
The relationship between presurgical opioid type and persistent postoperative opioid use: a retrospective observational linkage study comparing tapentadol and oxycodone
Persistent postoperative opioid use (‘persistence’) is defined as the presence of an active prescription for opioids more than 90 days post-surgery [1]. Opioid-experienced patients are at high risk of developing persistence after surgery, with one study reporting 1.72 times greater odds of persistence in participants who used any opioid in the 12 months before surgery when compared with an opioid-naïve group [2].
Atom-trap trace analysis of 41Ca/Ca down to the 10–17 level - Nature Physics
Abstract The cosmogenic isotope 41Ca with a half-life of 99,000 years can, in principle, serve as a tracer for environmental processes at an age scale beyond the reach of 14C. With accelerator mass spectrometry, the ratio of 41Ca/Ca has been measured down to the 10−15 level in natural samples. A wide range of potential applications, such as the burial dating of bones and exposure dating of rocks, require measuring even smaller 41Ca/Ca ratios in the range of 10−16 to 10−15.

Dynamic monitoring of CD45-/CD31+/DAPI+ circulating endothelial cells aneuploid for chromosome 8 during neoadjuvant chemotherapy in locally advanced breast cancer
Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) is the standard treatment for patients with locally advanced breast cancer (LABC). Circulating endothelial cells (CECs) are cancer biomarkers and crucial for angiogenesis. The relationship between NCT treatment and the number of aneuploid CECs in LABC has not been previously investigated. The aim of this study was to verify this relationship, and to estimate the clinic value of aneuploid CECs in LABC patients with different NCT responses.
