1 Introduction Fertility plays an essential role in dairy cow farming systems, with direct impact on the herd reproduction status, indirect effects on production traits and ultimately determining overall profitability (Shalloo et al. 2014). From a breeding perspective, improvements in female fertility traits strongly determine intra-herd replacement rates, with causal effects on selection intensities (VanRaden et al. 2004).

Climate sensitivity of milk production traits and milk fatty acids in genotyped Holstein dairy cows

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was the evaluation of climate sensitivity via genomic reaction norm models [i.e., to infer cow milk production and milk fatty acid (FA) responses on temperature-humidity index (THI) alterations]. Test-day milk traits were recorded between 2010 and 2016 from 5,257 first-lactation genotyped Holstein dairy cows. The cows were kept in 16 large-scale cooperator herds, being daughters of 344 genotyped sires.

Summary Background Dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) are noninvasive techniques for the diagnosis of skin lesions. Their accuracy for amelanotic/hypomelanotic melanoma (AHM) has not been systematically studied. Objectives We aimed to investigate systematically the accuracy of dermoscopy and RCM and to compare the accuracy between them for diagnosing AHM.
