Friends, family and, of course, the 2026 graduating class of Sandy High School made the trek out to the Rolling Hills Community Church on Friday, June 12. Seats were filled, and smiles were wide as Sandy High School principal Sarah Dorn greeted the crowd with, “Isn’t this a great-looking class?” The evening’s awards began with recognition of the school’s 16 valedictorians and seven salutatorians — both groups of which took to the stage to receive their honors.

Scott Harden, program director at the Gresham Senior Center, promptly emailed me with the correct answer to my challenge of: “If you can figure out the relevance of the name of my column (45 Words), I’ll buy you a coffee.” “45 Words” refers to the number of words in the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.
