The Best Wedding Gift I Received
Handmade Handkerchief "My grandmother had it made for me, lined with the satin from her wedding dress,” says Carrie Sue from Arlington, Virginia. “She had her wedding date, my great-grandparents’ wedding dates, and my wedding date embroidered on it, one in each corner. I carried it down the aisle, wrapped around my bouquet.”
Interview with Ferran Adrìa, ex-El Bulli Chef - Bon Appétit
Though open just six months a year, Spain’s El Bulli received an estimated two million reservation requests—only 8,000 of which were accepted. The restaurant closed in 2011, but its chef didn’t ride off into the sunset. Nope, Ferran Adrià is busy helping his brother, Albert, launch a fleet of eateries in Barcelona and working with his El Taller food lab to document what he describes as “the culinary world from the beginnings of humanity” (no small feat).
Driving Southwestern Virginia’s Mountains
In fall as many as 10,000 hawks a day soar above the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwest Virginia. The overlooks along the Blue Ridge Parkway are like a string of drive-in movie theaters—cars line the road, and people sink into canvas chairs that look as comfortable as La-Z-Boy recliners. They hold binoculars, watching for graceful squadrons of hawks to fly past. All of Virginia looks a bit like a flying bird if you squint at it on a map—its head pointing west; its wings forming the coast.
Strawberry Buckwheat Bars
The buckwheat flour really made this recipe. It is similar to a crumble, but the buckwheat flavor is very different - excellent with the strawberries. I used fresh local strawberries and used a bit more than the recipe called for. I also used homemade strawberry jam. I served it with high-quality vanilla bean gelato and it was a huge hit. I froze the rest of it, so we will see how that goes. Really fantastic summer dessert.

Gluten-Free Pistachio Truffle Cookies
This is a very special cookie--well worth the effort it takes to make. They are not particularly difficult to make, but there are several steps. Some of the time involved is inactive, so you can get other things done during that time. The results are spectacularly good--in taste, texture, and presentation. I have posted the recipe on my blog along with some photos if you want to read about my experience making these decadent cookies.
All-in-One Sugar Cookie Dough
I changed up the recipe slightly. I used a bit less sugar bc we don't like overly sweet sweets. I followed the cookie recipe otherwise, entirely & separated into 4 portions. From there, I prepped ingredients for Mocha, Carrot Cake & Cranberry/Pistachio, making only about 1/3 of each. I made sugar cookies which tasted good, but def would slice thicker next time. For mocha, I didn't have espresso, so I used Arabic/Turkish coffee & didn't have unsweetened cocoa, so used Cadbury drinking cocoa.

Gluten-Free Lacy Oat Sandwich Cookies
worked pretty well. i had to sub corn syrup for the brown rice syrup, so perhaps that's where i had some issues. i would recommend portioning out all the cookies before letting them cool for the full 15 minutes, maybe let them cool for 5 minutes then portion, then cool for the remaining 10 minutes. it was more difficult to portion the dough that was left for longer than 15 minutes. they taste a bit like corn syrup, so that might be on me, but you might not notice it. however..
Mixing With Mezcal: Smoky, Strong, and Delicious Cocktail Recipes
Mezcal is tequila’s older country cousin, made from different types of agave that infuse it with big, brawny flavors — think smoke, sweat, and petrol. As such, it doesn’t always play well with others. In Mexico, people drink the stuff undiluted and have for hundreds of years. Mezcal seemed to prefer it that way. That’s why I used to say that mixing cocktails with mezcal was like trying to teach a pig to sing: It wastes your time and annoys the pig. Best just to leave it alone.

Smitten Kitchen's Kid-Friendly Recipes
People have this idea that if you cook for a living, everything that comes out of your kitchen is homemade, and when you bring it to the table, Instagram-perfect children cheer because they know how blessed they are. This theory holds up better if you haven’t actually met any real live children in the wild (like mine, Anna, 2, and Jacob, 8).
Famous Foodies Share Their Secret-Ingredient Recipes
"Thirty years ago, I ate an amazing beef dish that had some flavor I couldn’t quite place. It was elusive and licoricey, and it made the food taste extraordinary. I asked the chef, and he told me it was star anise. I’ve since added it to all kinds of beef dishes, and it always gets oohs and aahs.” –Dorie Greenspan, food writer and author of Dorie’s Cookies "I was actually doing a juice cleanse when I came up with this.
Smitten Kitchen's Cooking Tips for a Small Kitchen
Don’t stack your pots and pans—get a rack and hang them from the ceiling. “You just reach up, grab a skillet, and you’re good to go,” says Perelman. “You’d need a lot of cabinets to keep all the pots I have.” One of Perelman’s biggest pet peeves? “When you have this big, beautiful kitchen but you have stuff out on the counters so you have about a square foot of actual work space.” Stash those flour and sugar canisters, small appliances, and trinkets in cabinets or on shelves.

I'm sure there's a proud parent or two out there whose kid snacks on olives like grapes. I'm not one of those parents, nor was I that kid.
