The Maryland General Assembly passed emergency legislation aimed at limiting cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and banning most law enforcement officers from wearing masks while performing routine duties, as protests grow statewide against federal immigration enforcement. Lawmakers approved companion bills in both chambers on Feb. 3 to end 287(g) agreements, partnerships that allow local and state police to work with ICE, and restrict law enforcement masking.

The Baltimore Association of Black Journalists (BABJ) is demanding an investigation into allegations of racism and poor leadership at WJZ-TV (WJZ), a CBS-owned station based in Baltimore. In a Nov. 17 statement, BABJ called for a prompt review of the complaints and a response from WJZ’s senior leadership.

Nearly a year ago, the Dali container ship lost power and struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing the structure to plunge into the Patapsco River at 1:29 a.m. on March 26, 2025. At the time of the collision, eight construction workers were filling potholes on the bridge and were sent crashing into the water. Only two survived. The disaster temporarily halted access to the Port of Baltimore, the leading U.S. port for automobiles, farm machinery, sugar and gypsum.
