Farm crime and trust in the Police in Ireland - Crime Prevention and Community Safety
Abstract The true extent of crime against farms in Ireland is unknown as official statistics are not collected on this specific area of crime. The Irish Farm Crime Survey sought to enhance understanding of farm crime by undertaking a national survey of farmers on their experiences of crime, with a particular focus on trust and confidence in the police, including their willingness to report incidents of crime.

Comparing light and dark chamber measurements of CH4 fluxes in drained and rewetted raised bogs of Ireland - Wetlands Ecology and Management
Abstract The important factors regulating methane (CH4) fluxes in rewetted peatlands such as the vegetation types, water table depths (WTDs) and in situ conditions (pH, redox, soil temperature and moisture) are widely reported, but the impact of light and dark conditions on CH4 fluxes from multiple vegetation types are understudied.

The Irish general election of 2024: A battle lost before it was fought?
The 2024 Irish general election had shaped to be the most consequential in the history of the Irish state. Much was at stake, as the previous general election had witnessed the left-wing, anti-partitionist Sinn Féin party take a plurality of first-preference votes and left-wing parties securing a historically unprecedented number of Dáil (parliamentary) seats. The subsequent years witnessed Sinn Féin soar in popularity, followed by an equally dramatic fall.

Patterns of Myopia Progression in European Adults
Introduction Myopia prevalence has surged dramatically in recent years, and it is estimated that by 2050, myopia will affect 50% of the global population,1 with some parts of Asia already experiencing rates exceeding 70% among younger generations.2,3 Of most concern is the increasing number of individuals with high myopia, with reports of high myopia prevalence of over 20% in some populations.4 These trends are particularly concerning due to the complications associated with increasing...

"Publication Bias" by Zacharias Papadakis and Jennifer Murphy
In Sport and Exercise Science (SES), 82% of published studies report significant findings indicating these studies have a robust research design that examines true effects with high statistical power. However, small sample sizes and underpowered designs are common in SES. Related literature in psychology reports that only 37% of replicated effects yield similar results to the original.

Renormalized stress-energy tensor for scalar fields in Hartle-Hawking, Boulware, and Unruh states in the Reissner-Nordstr\"om spacetime
In this paper, we consider a quantum scalar field propagating on the Reissner-Nordström black hole spacetime. We compute the renormalized stress-energy tensor for the field in the Hartle-Hawking, Boulware and Unruh states. When the field is in the Hartle-Hawking state, we renormalize using the recently developed “extended coordinate” prescription. This method, which relies on Euclidean techniques, is very fast and accurate.
Effect of pre-analytical variables on Raman and FTIR spectral content of lymphocytes
Effect of pre-analytical variables on Raman and FTIR spectral content of lymphocytes† The use of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy (RS) for the analysis of lymphocytes in clinical applications is increasing in the field of biomedicine. The pre-analytical phase, which is the most vulnerable stage of the testing process, is where most errors and sample variance occur; however, it is unclear how pre-analytical variables affect the FTIR and Raman spectra of lymphocytes.
Leniency Inflation, Cartel Damages, and Criminalization - Review of Industrial Organization
Abstract We revisit the pros and cons of introducing cartel criminalization in the EU. We document the recent EU “leniency inflation”, whereby leniency has been increasingly awarded to many (or all) cartel members, which softens the “courthouse race” effect. Coupled with the insufficient protection of leniency applicants from damages (2014 Damages Directive), it may have led to a decrease in leniency applications and cartel convictions.

“It was too much for me”: mental load, mothers, and working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic
Introduction While ‘working from home’ (WfH) had been already adopted as a form of flexible work before the COVID-19 crisis, it became a widespread practice during the pandemic across many European countries as part of public health measures. Working remotely suddenly and unexpectedly due to the COVID-19 pandemic led to the need for many people to adapt to an intense global situation and have to balance work and life in the home space.

Attentional influences on neural processing of biological motion in typically developing children and those on the autism spectrum - Molecular Autism

Two controls and five children with ASD were excluded from the analysis as a result of failure to meet minimum accuracy criterion on the behavioral performance (see “Measurements and Analyses: Behavioral Analyses”), and six NT and four ASD children were excluded for missing age and IQ data.
world's biggest port is returning to normal, but supply chains will get worse before they get better
Shanghai is slowly emerging from a gruelling COVID lockdown that has all but immobilised the city since March. Although Shanghai’s port, which handles one-fifth of China’s shipping volumes, has been operating throughout, it has been running at severely reduced capacity. Many shipments have either been cancelled, postponed or rerouted to other Chinese mega-ports such as Ningbo-Zhousan.

How judges judge: the research and its consequences
The aspiring litigation lawyer spends years in the library parsing over often dry legal texts and cases, slogging through attritional exams before their reward: cutting their teeth before a judge in court. The law comes to life, the courtroom their stage, they and judges lead actors in the honourable pursuit of justice. Often enough, however, they fall back down to earth with a thud.
