Editorial notes: Change in article production process
The year 2026 is a transitional one for the IJCSCL with respect to the article production process, managed by Springer Nature. From the beginning of the year 2027, the journal will move to a “continuous production” mode, whereby once an article is accepted for publication on a given date, it will be automatically added to the issue corresponding to the three-month period in which that date is situated.

Completeness-aware rule learning from knowledge graphs
Knowledge graphs (KGs) are huge collections of primarily encyclopedic facts that are widely used in entity recognition, structured search, question answering, and other tasks. Rule mining is commonly applied to discover patterns in KGs. However, unlike in traditional association rule mining, KGs provide a setting with a high degree of incompleteness, which may result in the wrong estimation of the quality of mined rules, leading to erroneous beliefs such as all artists have won an award.

Solver-in-the-loop approach to closure of shell models of turbulence
This work studies an a posteriori data-driven approach (known as solver-in-the-loop) for subgrid modeling of a shell model for turbulence. This approach takes advantage of the differentiable physics paradigm of deep learning, allowing a neural network model to interact with the differential equation solver over time during the training process.
Impossibility of adversarial self-testing and secure sampling
Self-testing is the task where spatially separated Alice and Bob cooperate to deduce the inner workings of untrusted quantum devices by interacting with them in a classical manner. We examine the task above where Alice and Bob do not trust each other which we call adversarial self-testing.
Broadband amplitude squeezing at room temperature in electrically driven quantum dot lasers
The generation of squeezed states of light lies at the heart of modern photonics-based quantum information technologies. Traditionally, optical nonlinear interactions have been employed to produce squeezed states. However, the harnessing of electrically pumped semiconductor lasers offers distinctive paradigms to achieve enhanced squeezing performance for real-world applications.

Device-Independent Quantum Key Distribution with Arbitrarily Small Nonlocality
Device-independent quantum key distribution allows two users to set up shared cryptographic key without the need to trust the quantum devices used. Doing so requires nonlocal correlations between the users. However, in Farkas et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett.
Dynamic Decentralized Functional Encryptions from Pairings in the Standard Model
Paper 2024/580 , Telecom Paris, Institut Polytechnique de Paris Abstract Dynamic Decentralized Functional Encryption (DDFE), introduced by Chotard et al. (CRYPTO'20), stands as a robust generalization of (Multi-Client) Functional Encryption. It enables users to dynamically join and contribute private inputs to individually-controlled joint functions, all without requiring a trusted authority. Agrawal et al.
Determination of cryptographic tables and properties related to the revised boomerang and its application to a fundamental S-box
Paper 2024/577 , Paris 8 University , Paris 8 University, Telecom Paris In symmetric cryptography, vectorial Boolean functions over finite fields F2n derive strong S-boxes. To this end, the S-box should satisfy a list of tests to resist existing attacks, such as the differential, linear, boomerang, and variants. Several tables are employed to measure an S- box’s resistance, such as the difference distribution table (DDT) and the boomerang connectivity table (BCT).

Adaptively Secure Consensus with Linear Complexity (and Constant Round) under Honest Majority in the Bare PKI Model, and Separation Bounds from the Idealized Message-Authentication Model
Paper 2023/1757 , Télécom Paris Abstract We consider the mainstream model in secure computation known as the bare PKI setup, also as the {bulletin-board PKI}. It assumes that players can broadcast once and non-interactively before they receive their inputs and start the execution. We consider both the problems of consensus with strong unanimity, also known as ``Byzantine agreement'' (BA), and of ``Validated Byzantine agreement'' [CKPS, Crypto'01] (VBA, also known as MVBA).
How Do Start‐up Acquisitions Affect the Direction of Innovation?*
1 INTRODUCTION The potential (anti-)competitive effects of start-up acquisitions have recently raised much scholarly and practitioner attention. Though consolidation processes between firms are certainly not new, big companies in sectors as varied as digital, pharmaceutical and healthcare have acquired a disproportional number of start-ups in the last few years.
Swiper and Dora: efficient solutions to weighted distributed problems
Paper 2023/1164 Swiper and Dora: efficient solutions to weighted distributed problems , Télécom Paris , Télécom Paris Abstract The majority of fault-tolerant distributed algorithms are designed assuming a nominal corruption model, in which at most a fraction $f_n$ of parties can be corrupted by the adversary. However, due to the infamous Sybil attack, nominal models are not sufficient to express the trust assumptions in open (i.e., permissionless) settings.
Let’s focus on AI’s tangible risks rather than speculating about its potential to pose an existential threat
Over the past few months, artificial intelligence (AI) has entered the global conversation as a result of the widespread adoption of generative AI-based tools such as chatbots and automatic image generation programs. Prominent AI scientists and technologists have raised concerns about the hypothetical existential risks posed by these developments. Having worked in AI for decades, this surge in popularity and the sensationalism that has followed have caught us by surprise.

Optimal control methods for quantum batteries
Abstract We investigate the optimal charging processes for several models of quantum batteries, finding how to maximize the energy stored in a given battery with a finite-time modulation of a set of external fields. We approach the problem using advanced tools of optimal control theory, highlighting the universality of some features of the optimal solutions, for instance the emergence of the well-known bang-bang behavior of time-dependent external fields.

Generation of "independent" points on elliptic curves by means of Mordell--Weil lattices
Paper 2022/794 Generation of "independent" points on elliptic curves by means of Mordell--Weil lattices , Télécom Paris Abstract This article develops a novel method of generating "independent" points on an ordinary elliptic curve $E$ over a finite field. Such points are actively used in the Pedersen vector commitment scheme and its modifications. In particular, the new approach is relevant for Pasta curves (of $j$-invariant $0$), which are very popular in the given type of elliptic cryptography.
High-capacity free-space optical link in the midinfrared thermal atmospheric windows using unipolar quantum devices
1. Introduction Since its adoption in the early 2000s, broadband communication has revolutionized our habits of learning, entertaining, and communicating, owing to continuous improvement in data-transfer speed. In some geographical areas, high-speed internet access is still hindered due to infrastructure issues: wired network expansion implies heavy civil engineering and very high costs.

Why facial recognition algorithms can't be perfectly fair
In June 2020, a facial recognition algorithm led to the wrongful arrest of Robert Williams, an African-American, for a crime he did not commit. After a shoplifting incident in in a pricey area of Detroit, Michigan, his driver’s license photo was wrongly matched with a blurry video of the perpetrator. Police released him after several hours and apologized, but the episode raises serious questions about the accuracy of visual-recognition algorithms.
