Introduction Lung transplantation is the only viable treatment option for end-stage lung diseases [1]. During the last two decades, the number of lung transplants has increased worldwide, partially attributed to surgical advancement, donor pool expansion and recipient selection improvements [1, 2]. Though post-transplantation survival rates have also improved during this period, they still lag significantly behind other solid-organ transplants, such as heart, kidney and liver transplants [3].

1 Background Right ventricular pacing (RVP) is associated with abnormal left ventricular mechanics, along with molecular and cellular changes that drive adverse ventricular remodeling and the development of pacing-induced cardiomyopathy (PICM). PICM is typically defined by a ≥10% reduction in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) or an absolute LVEF <50%, after ruling out other potential causes of cardiomyopathy [1-4].
