Images taken on Aug. 30, 2026, rafting on the Colorado River after a flash flood at the Grand Canyon. Over more than four hours on Aug. 29, rain fell on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and triggered flash flooding that tore through Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch inside the Canyon, where dozens of people were evacuated and more are still missing. Rainfall estimates of up to 2 inches were recorded across the North Rim that day, according to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff.

Updated Aug. 31, 2026, 10:45 a.m. MT Monday morning storms were still moving through the Valley, while storms will continue to develop in other parts of the state throughout the day. Flood watches were still in effect. Slightly cooler temperatures between the upper 90s and 104 degrees return after a long stretch of heat. Drier air comes midweek. Storm chances begin to rise again as soon as Thursday night as tropical moisture may pull into the region.
