Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I first started as a freelance journalist for The Skinny magazine's North West office, writing features and reviews.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes - when I was a kid at my parents' house! I once wrote my grandma a letter when I was about seven asking when she'd next come to visit.

How is social media changing news?

Social media is making news more responsive, allowing those who were traditionally the audience to be part of the story.

What's your favorite social network?

Facebook's good for speaking with family, but Twitter's best for all-out messy hilarity.

Why did you become a journalist?

I became a journalist because I freaking loved indie music and wanted to learn more about it and share it with people.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The New Statesman is consistently enlightening. It has expanded my horizons and understanding of politics significantly.
