Minione światy. Podróż do początków Ziemi

Portrait of the Human as a Young Hominin
The swifts arrive with thunder at their backs. Winter birds, they appear, loudly, and in great numbers, pursuing the emerging insect swarms just as the wet season begins after more than four months without rain. The arrival of the migratory birds marks the return of fertility and life, the continuation of a seasonal pattern that will last for millions of years to come. The birds barrel through the mountain air of the East African highlands that will one day be part of Kenya and Ethiopia.
OTHERLANDS: A World in the Making by Thomas Halliday book review
It’s phenomenally difficult for human brains to grasp deep time. Even thousands of years seem unfathomable, with all human existence before the invention of writing deemed ‘prehistory’, a time we know very little about.

First definitive abelisaurid theropod from the Late Cretaceous of Northwestern Argentina
ABSTRACT The fossil record of abelisaurid theropods in South America is mostly limited to Brazil and Argentina. In Argentina, abelisaurids are generally known from Patagonia, where their record is relatively abundant and includes well-known and complete specimens. However, for North-western Argentina, abelisaurids are represented by incomplete and isolated bones and teeth that remain largely unpublished.
Otherlands: Journeys in Earth’s Extinct Ecosystems
Paleobiologist and evolutionary biologist Halliday (Univ. of Birmingham) takes readers on a compelling voyage through ancient landscapes. He works backward through the fossil record, beginning with the most recent ice age at end-Pleistocene to the emergence of multicellular creatures over 550 million years ago.
