The weekend box office belonged to Scary Movie, as Paramount’s horror-comedy revival opened in first place with $55 million from 3,490 theaters. The film averaged $15,759 per location, giving the long-running parody franchise a strong return to theaters and proving that nostalgia for Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans, and Shawn Wayans still has major audience pull. In second place, Masters of the Universe debuted with $29.3 million for Amazon MGM Studios.
