Mary Amid the Ashes: ‘Am I Not Here, I Who Am Your Mother?’
COMMENTARY: Faith does not require pretending that loss is small. It insists only that loss is not the whole story, and Mary constantly reminds us of this. A statue of Our Lady remains untouched in front of a burned-out home in the Balboa neighborhood of Spokane, Washington, on Aug. 2, 2026.
Mamdani Can’t Run a Grocery Store
By Tim Busch Mayor Zohran Mamdani in New York City, July 27.Photo: Spencer Platt/Getty Images For more than 75 years, grocery stores have been my family’s business. In 1948, just after World War II, my father, Joe, and his business partner opened Busch’s Country Market in a small town outside Ann Arbor, Mich. I stocked shelves when I was 7. At 21, after graduating from Western Michigan University with an accounting degree, I became an owner.
The Napa Way: Before We Debate, Let’s Have Dinner Together
COMMENTARY: As Catholics, we must look beyond our disagreements to search for common ground. ‘Dinner’ (photo: DavideAngelini / Shutterstock) Commentaries July 20, 2026 America is experiencing a period of profound polarization. Researchers have documented a growing ideological divide over the past several decades, while surveys show that many Americans feel exhausted by the constant conflict that surrounds public life. Social media has amplified this trend.
Catholics Helped Build America — and America Has Strengthened the Church
COMMENTARY: The Catholic contribution to America is undeniable; the American contribution to Catholic life is often overlooked. COMMENTARY: ‘Magnifica Humanitas’ is the exact right message for the moment. Pope Leo XIV visits Lebanon on Dec. 1, 2025. (photo: Paul Saad / Shutterstock) Commentaries May 28, 2026 As the saying goes, history doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes. Pope Leo XIV’s new encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, both proves the point and expands upon it.

COMMENTARY: Now more than ever, our society needs strong families, strong churches and well-formed lay leaders. Carl Bloch, “The Sermon on the Mount,” 1877 (photo: Public Domain) Commentaries May 4, 2026 The following is the prepared text of a commencement address delivered by Timothy Busch at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota, on April 25. Men and women of the University of Mary Class of 2026: You are graduating from an extraordinary institution.
The rich are responding to socialism all wrong
Wealthy Americans are running scared. The multimillionaire and billionaire class increasingly fears that a revolution is coming to eat them. Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York, California’s push toward a wealth tax, and the steady radicalization of elite universities all point in the same direction. The threat isn’t merely higher taxes; it’s the normalization of socialism, with its attendant nationalization, asset seizures, and permanent class conflict.
A Silent Reflection on Mother Teresa and Serving the Poor
COMMENTARY: The witness of Mother Teresa sheds light on how Christians are called to serve in every vocation. Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II greet well-wishers at the Nirmal Hriday Home in Calcutta, India, Feb. 3, 1986. (photo: Jean-Claude Delmas / AFP via Getty Images) Commentaries February 4, 2026 Four days is an awfully long time to dwell in silence — especially when you’re reevaluating your calling in life. That’s the situation in which I found myself during a recent silent retreat.
My friend Cardinal Dolan — prince of the church, and America’s parish priest
Cardinal Timothy Dolan, outgoing Archbishop of New York, attends Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dec. 18. REUTERS If you’ve ever had the privilege of listening to Timothy Cardinal Dolan preach at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, you’ve surely heard him refer to the towering house of worship as “America’s parish church.” Something similar could be said of the larger-than-life man himself: He’s America’s parish priest.

Dolan’s humility, humor and deeply human love for others have long marked him as a singular force in the Catholic Church.
How Should Catholics Approach Giving Tuesday?
COMMENTARY: America’s tax structure has given rise to a Catholic infrastructure that is unparalleled in world history. We should lean into it — here are three ways to do so. Gustave Doré (1832-1883), “The Widow’s Mite” (photo: Public Domain) Commentaries December 1, 2025 For many of us, Giving Tuesday, the annual pseudo-holiday, has become overwhelming. Held on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, it’s a time when countless charities and nonprofits now ask for donations.
Mamdani's catastrophic socialist vision may herald in America's freedom rebirth
OPINION: “Be not afraid.” That verse from the Bible has been on my mind since Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City. Don’t get me wrong: I’m no Pollyanna. As a lifelong entrepreneur and part-time resident of New York City, my initial reaction to his victory was borderline terror. The socialist will undoubtedly bring America’s greatest city to its lowest point in decades, if not ever.
Opinion | A Lesson in Faith on Fifth Avenue
It was a rainy Sunday in January, one of those evenings when the light dances off the pavement and people rush about, eager to escape the cold and wet. My wife and I had seen a play and were walking briskly down 54th Street to dinner. As we approached Fifth Avenue, someone yelled, “Can you help the lady who’s trying to cross the street?”

McCarrick Scandal Underscores Church’s Need for Greater Lay Involvement
COMMENTARY: The laity’s role isn’t about changing doctrine — it’s about promoting holiness and confronting corruption, especially in matters of abuse and financial oversight. Theodore McCarrick speaks to journalists at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle on April 1, 2005,, in Washington, D.C. Special masses were held across the US on Friday for the Pope, whose popularity among US Catholics was tempered by opposition to his traditional views on abortion and women priests.

That’s how many presidents have served this country in my lifetime. I remember almost all of them — all but Dwight Eisenhower, who occupied the Oval Office when I was born. From a young age, I was interested in how each president approached faith. Did they practice what they preached?
Donald Trump Says God Saved Him. He Can Repay God by Defending Life.
COMMENTARY: If the Republican presidential candidate truly believes that God twice spared him from assassination, he has a moral duty to oppose abortion. Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump prays while during a campaign rally at Johnny Mercer Theatre Civic Center in Savannah, Georgia, on September 24, 2024.
Lowering the temperature in Catholic culture wars-over a meal
Loading... Click here if you don’t see subscription options Politics isn’t the only place where polarization is rampant and worsening by the day. The Catholic Church is increasingly divided, too. The growing chasm threatens to split the institution that calls itself the one true church. In the same way that Americans must rediscover how to disagree without being disagreeable, Catholics must relearn how to look beyond our differences.
At 80, Cardinal O’Malley Remains a Beacon of Leadership in the Church
COMMENTARY: From his appointment as archbishop of Boston in 2003, the Capuchin cardinal has embodied the care and conviction these times demand. Pope Francis greets Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley of Boston during an audience with members of the Papal Foundation at the Vatican's Clementine Hall on May 10, 2019.
A national abortion ban won’t pass on its own, Republicans should make a deal Original
The pro-life movement is at a crossroads. Nearly two years after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, activists continue to demand that Congress pass a national abortion ban — a policy that has no chance of passing on its own, especially after widespread outrage over Arizona’s reinstatement of an 1864 abortion ban. We can either continue to advocate that failed strategy, or we can try something that may work.
What Is the Catholic Church’s Position on IVF?
The use of IVF is contrary to Catholic teachings. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that IVF is ‘morally unacceptable’ because it separates the marriage act from procreation and establishes ‘the domination of technology’ over human life.

It had everything to do with Catholicism and the powerful commercial from Hallow.

Pro-lifers should back a federal 15-week abortion ban
That’s how a crowd of 800-plus Catholics responded to Vice President Mike Pence at my organization’s recent conference. He had just called for a federal 15-week ban on abortion, which didn’t sit well with the decidedly pro-life crowd, nor does it mesh with what the rest of the pro-life movement wants. Yet I can’t help but think that Pence was right. For the sake of both principles and practicality, we should rally around a federal 15-week abortion ban.

Opinion | The Vatican Can Clean Up Its Financial Act
The Catholic Church faces a global financial crisis. From Vatican City to Washington, revelations of fiscal impropriety give the faithful reason to fear their generosity is being spent in illegitimate, illegal and immoral ways. Church leaders would be wise to adopt the same methods of transparency and accountability that helped them address clerical abuse.
What We Need Now Is Religious Courage | National Review
Many religious believers are losing the courage to defend their beliefs. Yet modern society desperately needs vibrant faith communities that stand strong for timeless principles and deeper truths.
Groceries, Hotels, and Woke Idols on Apple Podcasts
David sits down with Tim Busch, founder of Pacific Hospitality Group, a leading hotelier and key advocate in the fight for a free and virtuous society. The two discuss the state of inflation, the reality of Fed policy on the hospitality industry, and what we can learn about the silliness of the LA Dodgers. This is a discussion you will not want to miss!
Bud Light, Target, haven't the Dodgers learned anything? As a sports team owner, I know better Original
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Will the Los Angeles Dodgers ever be the same? I doubt it. One of the most-storied sports brands in history is reeling. It’s the result of management’s foolish decision to invite an anti-Catholic hate group to an LGBT Pride night, then rescind the invitation after criticism from the right, only to re-invite the group after blowback from the left. The flip-flopping wasn’t the Dodger’s biggest mistake.
Cardinal Pell: Dearly Departed Father of the Synod on Synodality
Have you ever heard a homily or spiritual reflection that moved you to your core? I’ve been blessed to hear two in the past four months, both from close friends who have powerfully influenced our Church. The first was from the late and great Cardinal George Pell; the second from the longtime head of the Acton Institute, Father Robert Sirico. Their reflections hit me hard because of their timeless wisdom on a timely topic: the Synod on Synodality.
In The Fight for Life, Voting and Conversion Are Both Needed
COMMENTARY: If the pro-life movement is smart and focused, we can achieve great victories for the sake of mothers and children in our nation The fight for life has entered a new and critical stage. Coming off the 2022 midterm elections, abortion activists have set their sights on socially conservative, pro-life states. They’re preparing ballot initiatives in the hopes of convincing voters to back unlimited abortions.
A Tried-and-True Way for Catholics to Evangelize

'God's Rottweiler': Pope Benedict was a fierce and compassionate defender of the faith Original
“Jesus Christ is not just a book. He was and is our brother, our Lord.” Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger said these words to me in Rome in November 2003, a year and a half before his election as Pope Benedict XVI. They capture the heart of the man I would meet seven more times, most recently in 2012, toward the end of his papacy. Pope Benedict, who died early Saturday, will mainly be remembered as a theologian who strongly upheld Catholic teaching.

Cardinal Zen on Trial | Tim Busch
It says a lot about Communist China that Beijing feels the need to arrest and prosecute a frail ninety-year-old Catholic leader. It says even more that Cardinal Zen is accepting his plight with such grace and courage. With his trial on trumped-up national security charges set to resume on October 26, Zen appears fully prepared to continue his Christian ministry from behind bars. The regime may think it’s punishing him, but in fact, it is making him into the martyr that Beijing should fear most.
Free Enterprise and Faith, Forty Years Later
Michael Novak saw that many Catholics were turning on the American system when we should be strengthening its foundations.
Free Enterprise and Faith, Forty Years Later
"It's urgent, Tim." That's what Michael Novak told me in our first meeting in late 2016, which turned out to be one of his last. The famous thinker, who passed away the following February, had just become the distinguished visiting fellow at the Catholic University of America's Busch School of Business, which I had recently helped launch. Not content to just teach students, he wanted to create a forum where Catholic academics would explore the relationship between free enterprise and faith.
