Mid-rise buildings give us an opportunity to vastly expand housing options in Toronto
Ontario has been gripped by a growing housing crisis for most of the last decade and its impacts are causing some serious anxiety for those responsible for solving it. Why? Young workers and their families are leaving the Greater Toronto Area, driven out by housing costs and limited options. The Toronto Board of Trade calls this “a massive threat to our economy.” Toronto’s strength as a place of enormous employment opportunity rests on our ability to house young people.
Are provincial parks the next target for Doug Ford's developer friends?
In a Canada Day weekend surprise for Ontarians, the Doug Ford government announced that they plan to sell off 60 per cent of the beachfront lands in Wasaga Beach Provincial Park for a development scheme, strip park protection from an even larger area, and to amend the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act (PPCRA), the legislation that protects all Provincial Parks.
We're in our nation building era
We can help solve gridlock and increase productivity by moving more people on regional and inter-regional rail. Canada's economic transformation should be about reducing greenhouse gas emissions and securing Canada's long-term prosperity, writes Tim Gray We can make family-sized homes more abundant and affordable by building small multi-unit buildings within our towns and cities using and exporting Canadian-made construction materials like mass-timber and high-insulation windows.

What To Know About Legally Owning THIS Utah Animal
Utah is home to many wild animals and some of us (it’s me) daydream about owning some exotic pets, but many can and should not be kept in captivity. The beehive state has strict laws on protected wildlife so for those who have thought about ownings bats, opossums, racoons or skunks it’s a no. However, with certain conditions there are some exotic pets you can own and may not need a license for, like the red fox.

Tariffs are the tip of the iceberg in Ontario’s election
Ontario is headed to the polls in a snap election that Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford has justified based on the need for Ontario’s next premier to have a strong mandate to respond to tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.
Three important lessons from the L.A. fires
As fire crews work hard to finally extinguish the flames, the Los Angeles fires generate awe at the power of wildfire and horror at the tragic loss of human life and property. But they can also teach us several important things about scientific evidence, weaponized disinformation, and fighting for our future in the critical times we are living in.
Has buying beer and wine at the corner store changed lives in Ontario? Probably not.
While some increased convenience for busy families is nice, Ontario government leaders need to start grappling with some much bigger issues —now that they have finally returned to work at Queen’s Park after a long summer break — tackling issues like access to affordable homes, help with still-rising food costs and lowering utility bills. And then, there is that whole climate change thing that looms over our communities like a rapidly growing black cloud.

The Greenbelt debacle: How did we get here?
Thanks to the work of the auditor general and the integrity commissioner, people in Ontario are now very awake to the deceit and corrupt practices involved in the attack on the Greenbelt, city planning and the ability to build homes where we need them. But less clear is what drove the government to become so captured by the power and influence of the development industry.
