Paxton should recuse himself from election matters
This midterm election season has something the state of Texas has not seen in years: a truly competitive U.S. Senate race drawing national attention. But that’s not all that makes this race unusual. Ken Paxton, the Republican nominee, is also the sitting Texas attorney general — the state’s top law enforcement officer.

NCC and SARS to roll out track-and-trace system aimed at curbing imports of illicit goods
The National Consumer Commission and the South African Revenue Service have joined forces in a renewed push to curb the import and trade of these goods. They have a memorandum of understanding to strengthen enforcement and information sharing, and a planned track-and-trace system designed to help regulators and consumers identify suspect products. Suppliers can get ahead of the anticipated rollout of the track-and-trace system by strengthening their contractual and internal governance frameworks.
Phantom vehicles have real consequences
The Advertising Regulatory Board has reaffirmed that it takes a dim view of advertising imaginary stock. The message to suppliers of goods and services is clear, if your advertising is geared at collecting monies that your business cannot cash, expect consequences. The Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008’s bait marketing provisions exist to stop suppliers dangling attractive listings to generate foot traffic or accumulate orders they cannot fill.

Voetstoots, but not fancy-free
In Edan Traders (Pty) Ltd v National Consumer Tribunal and Others 2026 JDR 1626 (GJ), the High Court reinforced that the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA) sets minimum standards that suppliers cannot contract out of, regardless of the wording of the sale agreement. Second‑hand goods are not exempt from the CPA’s provisions, and voetstoots clauses are not a shield of protection from liability for suppliers.

Out for the count - National Consumer Tribunal knocks out claim against “Rhodes”
A recent National Consumer Tribunal ruling is a reminder that although our courts do not place over reliance on rigid technicalities, there are certain procedural defects that cannot parry knock-out blows. The judgment is a reminder that precision from the outset, focussed on ensuring you can actually step into the ring, matters.
(Un)confirmatory
In Blue Crane Route Municipality v Storm and Others (1582/2023) [2023] ZAECMKHC 119, the court held that confirmatory affidavits, if they are to carry weight, must provide personal observations or factual detail and cannot simply rubber-stamp what is said in another affidavit. This case is a cautionary tale: confirmatory affidavits are not a procedural box-tick. They must contain substance, or they risk being disregarded entirely.
The dishonesty threshold for withholding a pension withdrawal benefit
In the matter of Overnight Logistics (Pty) Ltd v Simon Mayimela and Others (PFA24/2025), the Financial Services Tribunal (Tribunal) considered whether an employer could withhold an employee’s pension withdrawal benefit under section 37D(1)(b)(ii)(bb) of the Pension Funds Act 24 of 1956 (Pension Funds Act) in the absence of proven dishonesty.
Hallucination Complications
Attorneys who incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) tools into their practice must ensure that all outputs are thoroughly reviewed and verified. Failure to do so may expose them to regulatory scrutiny and not being covered by professional indemnity insurance. To mitigate these risks, law firms should consider implementing internal protocols for AI use, including mandatory verification of all AI-generated content.
Limiting federal grants at the DOJ is a step toward fiscal sanity
British politician Dennis Healey wisely advised, “When you’re in a hole, the first rule is to stop digging.” The national debt might be the world’s deepest grave, surpassing $36 trillion with a deficit projected at $1.3 trillion for this fiscal 2025 alone. It’s no wonder Americans cast aside career gravediggers in both parties and elected a private sector builder to tame bureaucratic bloat.
Trump’s First Step Act Was a Monumental Success. His New Administration Has a Chance to Build On It.
Every April since President Donald Trump signed the first proclamation in 2018, Second Chance Month has served as an annual reminder to recognize the potential of people with criminal records to turn their lives around. The First Step Act of 2018 remains one of President Trump’s most important legacies from his first term. It has been a tremendous success by virtually any measure, and it’s part of a critical but underserved area of legislative reform.
Rebuilding trust in America's institutions starts with common sense
OPINION: Americans’ precipitous loss of faith in American institutions is an important story — and a long-running one, at this point — but it isn’t the whole story. Americans aren’t losing trust only in their justice system, higher education, legacy media organizations, one another, their religious leadership, scientists, banks or corporations. They are losing faith in the institutions empowered to directly change the social, economic and political order we all occupy.
Ordinary Americans Made America Extraordinary. It’s Time to Build an Economy That Empowers Them.
The Conservative Political Action Conference, known to all of us as CPAC, is a time to talk. Don’t get me wrong: Talking about the right things, to the right people, is good. We need to discuss the issues of the day, discuss how to address them. We need to build alliances and relationships. But right now, America needs more than talk; our nation needs to be governed. The American people largely voted for President Trump because they want America to function again.
LISTEN: Trump wins Evangelical, Catholic vote in return to White House - one group drove that turnout
The 47th President of the United States of America Donald J. Trump captured 81% of the Evangelical vote and 57% of the Catholic vote Tuesday to become the second president in a century to be elected twice to The White House in split terms. One group - Faith & Freedom Coalition - knocked on 9.7 million doors around America to get low propensity Republicans and Christian voters to the polls in key battleground states. kAm%@52J[ 7@==@H:?8 %CF>A’D 9:DE@C:4 H:?[ kDEC@?8mkDA2?
Will Harris preserve our institutions or choose permanent progressive rule?
With Election Day less than two months away, voters still have no idea what the Democratic nominee for president truly stands for. While Vice President Kamala Harris has offered only scripted speeches and two prerecorded TV interviews, fundamental questions about her plans for the nation remain unanswered.
Georgia needs better prison oversight and accountability
Americans rely on our justice system to hold those accountable who violate the law and cause harm to their fellow citizens. But who is responsible for holding the justice system accountable when it falls short of its own standards? Recently, Congress provided a partial answer by overwhelmingly passing the bipartisan Federal Prison Oversight Act.

Four boxes Trump’s vice presidential pick should check
Like the summer, election season is only getting hotter, and tens of millions of people are ready for a change. Over the past four years, record inflation levels, border anarchy, violent conflict abroad, and an executive branch openly in thrall to divisive identity politics and fringe leftist obsessions have made many voters eager to empower Republicans this fall.

Congress can score another bipartisan win for safety and justice
As a recent eruption between members of the House Oversight Committee demonstrated, Congress doesn’t always model good behavior. But beyond the theatrics and gridlock that make headlines, many Americans might be pleasantly surprised to find encouraging examples of serious lawmakers working together. The bipartisan Safer Supervision Act is just that.

Why US Evangelicals who support Israel should also back Ukraine
For decades, American Evangelicals have been some of Israel’s staunchest supporters. Regardless of what else demands America’s attention, if Israel finds itself in a crisis, American Evangelicals know that supporting the Holy Land is non-negotiable; they rightly see it as a spiritual and moral imperative. But when it comes to U.S. aid for Ukraine, the same cannot be said.
Jewish Students Are Facing Threats to Their Existence. Will We Stand By Them?
The rise of antisemitic attacks in America after the brutal Oct. 7 Hamas murders has been alarming not just for its cruelty or sudden ubiquity but for the apparent tranquility with which so many have accepted it. Antisemitic incidents have risen by 360% from the previous year— close to the highest rate recorded. Now, amid the recent spate of anti-Israel campus protests, Jewish students are afraid to attend classes because of the level of hostility.
The Clean Slate Act isn’t just the right thing to do - it’s smart policy
One of the most obvious truths of modern government is that it tends to grow exponentially. The number of bureaucrats it employs increases. The amount it taxes it spends goes up. Its reach into every corner of our lives grows. And the number of acts and beliefs it prohibits grows too. For instance, today there are so many federal crimes (statutes and regulations) that no one has been able to count them. This is one of the reasons that today one in three Americans has a criminal record of some sort.

Supporting Israel is morally right and politically smart
Many Jewish Americans preparing to celebrate the Passover holiday are still mourning the tragic loss of their brothers and sisters in Israel, who suffered unspeakable crimes at the hands of Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7. Much trauma was relived last weekend when Israel suffered an unprecedented direct attack from Iran. Regrettably, as time has passed since October, the Biden administration has increasingly chosen to sympathize less with the Israelis and more with those opposed to eliminating Hamas.
Georgia’s conservatives can help solve the state’s corrections crisis
On April 4, a man was stabbed and killed in Fulton County Jail. A few weeks before, a at Telfair State Prison was attacked and stabbed. Unfortunately, these recent cases are just two of many detailing violence in Georgia’s jails and prisons. Last year, observers reported hundreds of stabbings, 10 deaths and numerous assaults on staff that occurred in the Fulton County jail alone. On top of this, there were at least 56 homicides and suicides in Georgia prisons.

Easter reminds us of our most important liberty
By , Op-ed contributor As Easter approaches, well over a billion people across the globe will join family and friends to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the hope of life to come. These truths obviously pre-date the founding of America, but they were folded into the DNA of America even before its inception. As such, Easter is important for all Americans, not just for those who claim faith. Because the United States did not create religious freedom.
Biden is losing Michigan, so he’s throwing Israel under the bus
Three weeks ago, President Biden told reporters, while licking an ice cream cone with TV host Seth Meyers, that he hoped “by next Monday, we’ll have a ceasefire” between Israel and Hamas. It turns out that evaluation of the war wasn’t accurate. Israeli leadership, Hamas and even his own national security adviser Jake Sullivan all had much less optimistic views. Now his administration tried to strongarm our ally by drafting a UN resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Head: GOP Primaries Work, Proof of Democracy in Action
OPINION There's been a lot of hand-wringing about the state of democracy in America, particularly as the battle raged between GOP nominee hopefuls former President Donald Trump and former South Carolina Governor and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. Two states moved to block Trump from appearing on primary ballots at all, both citing his alleged engagement "in an insurrection." Formal challenges along similar lines were filed in 35 other states, at least.
Yes, our rights come from God: A needed lesson on America’s faith-infused founding
A disturbing narrative is metastasizing within our national consciousness: that Americans who embrace religious faith are potentially dangerous extremists, and that faith-inspired engagement in the public square poses a threat to our democracy. These false and egregious notions are not new, but they are clearly spreading. They also warrant an informed response.
Democrats fear evangelical voters
As a matter of statistical fact, more than any other demographic, evangelical Christian voters are deciding the 2024 Republican presidential primary. According to ABC News exit polls, self-identified born-again Christians comprised 61% of the electorate in Saturday’s GOP presidential primary in South Carolina. They gave 72% of their vote to former President Donald Trump and 27% to former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
Fishermen case offers hope for freedom from administrative state
At first glance, Atlantic fishermen might not appear to be in the same boat as those fighting for freedom from ever-increasing government overreach. Yet a flawed legal precedent, known as the Chevron doctrine, has surrounded fishermen in a sea of government red tape. Alarmingly, this same precedent threatens to drag everyone from electricians to engineers to bankers under, as well. But if oral arguments at the Supreme Court this month are any indicator, there is reason to hope.
The Iowa Caucuses Are About Much More Than the GOP Nomination
We are days away from the Iowa caucuses — the watershed moment every four years for would-be GOP nominees, and the first real test of how American evangelical voters will turn out, and for whom. Evangelicals are still arguably one of the most powerful voting blocs in all of American politics. And they certainly remain the fulcrum for any GOP presidential hopeful. They vote overwhelmingly again and again to bolster the protection of family, liberty and constitutionally grounded law and order.
American families stand to lose an average of $2,500 - unless we intervene Original
In 2017, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) helped reduce taxes for families with children by an average of $2,570 by expanding the child tax credit system. But it expires in 2025. That’s why efforts like the Child Tax Credit (CTC) expansion urged by Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, myself and a long list of pro-family leaders late last year are so important. We don’t know what will replace the 2017 tax law, or whether the family-friendly tax measures embedded in it will persist.
Consumerism undermines traditional family Christmas, but there are ways to fix that Original
Video NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! It’s a common holiday tragedy: no matter how many days or weeks mom and dad spend frantically scouring the shopping mall for every gift on Suzie’s list, she will be upset when her stocking doesn’t contain the one toy she really wanted. Worn out with exhaustion, her parents will embark on "just one more" Christmas Eve trip to the crowded mall to purchase the final gift, only to discover that it is out of stock.
Help people in prison change for the better
At last count, there were more than 1.2 million people serving time in federal or state prisons across our country. While their crimes vary, the vast majority share one thing in common: They will, at some point, be released. That reality invites a critical question: Are we adequately preparing incarcerated people to succeed in society, as neighbors, colleagues and family members? We approach this issue from very different backgrounds and perspectives.
There’s no reason to send these 3,000 people in home confinement back to federal prison
The federal government got a lot wrong in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. But one of the things it got right was moving low-risk, non-violent prisoners to home confinement under the authority of the CARES Act. Unfortunately, some in Congress now want to return nearly 3,000 of these people to prison, even though they have caused no problems since their release. This is neither fiscally responsible nor smart public safety policy. Prisons are ideal places for communicable diseases to spread.
TIM HEAD: Here’s How Congress Can Tackle Antisemitism, Support Israel And Take On Iran
Eight weeks ago, Hamas terrorists brutally committed the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, reminding the world that hate can become violent in the blink of an eye. Americans mourning the tragic loss of our Jewish brothers and sisters in Israel have not been silent. Together with Congress, we must now match bold words with actions to fight antisemitism and stand with our Jewish neighbors suffering from unfathomable pain and fear.
Head: Promising Past Gives Mike Johnson a Bright Future
OPINION Our representatives in Washington, D.C. too often lack vision, courage, and leadership. But newly minted U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson is demonstrating those qualities right before our very eyes. That’s rare among people today, and particularly among politicians. Mike Johnson’s guiding principles are rooted in his sincere faith. At 12 years old, his father, a firefighter, survived an explosion that left him severely burned.
Seven things Congress can do to help Israel
The world witnessed a barbaric attack on the Jewish homeland in Israel last month. On that brutal October day, Hamas terrorists deliberately targeted innocent men, women, children, and the elderly with violence and hate on an unfathomable scale that continues to shock our consciences and weigh heavily on our hearts. In the wake of these horrors, the Faith and Freedom Coalition organized a trip to Israel to witness the tragedy and demonstrate our solidarity with the Jewish people.
This Year, Give Thanks - and Take Responsibility
In 1789, President George Washington took the first step toward making Thanksgiving the holiday we know and celebrate today.
Why American Christians Must Rally To Israel’s Defense
All over American college campuses, students are chanting anti-Israel slogans, backing Hamas, and accusing Israelis of war crimes. Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib accused President Joe Biden of “supporting genocide” by supporting Israel. The chant “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” has echoed in town squares and on social media screens around the world for the past month.
Biden Once Again Weaponizes the Law Against Conservatives
The Biden administration’s abuse of power to target pro-life Americans is on full display once again. In 2022 alone, the Biden Department of Justice (DOJ) charged 26 pro-life individuals with FACE Act (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act) violations. The FACE Act targets pro-life protestors by prohibiting “threats of force, obstruction and property damage” to stop individuals from entering abortion clinics.
Israel needs moral clarity. Will America provide it?
Amid the horrific stories emerging from the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack, the world is desperately searching for moral clarity. So far, whether it can be found in the United States is an open question.
If you’re not paying attention to Texas right now, you should be
A special legislative session is taking place in Texas right now, at Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s behest. If you’re not paying close attention to the state currently, you should be: The session is addressing school choice, among other things. The outcomes could play a role in fundamentally reshaping America’s public education. In fact, SB 1 — a bill with important ramifications for the nationwide school choice battle — has passed the Senate and is moving on to the House.
