4 people arrested in Downey after AutoZone, Spirit Halloween store burglarized
Four people were arrested after an AutoZone and a Spirit Halloween store were burglarized and ransacked in Downey on Monday morning. The Downey Police Department said around 3:43 a.m., officers responded to the area near Firestone Boulevard and Ryerson Avenue after receiving reports of a takeover. After officers arrived, they received an additional call about an alarm at an AutoZone in the 7000 block of Firestone Boulevard.
3 women injured after shooting in Long Beach
Three women were injured after a shooting in Long Beach on Sunday night. Just after 11 p.m., the Long Beach Police Department received calls about a shooting near a liquor store on Pacific Coast Highway and Pine Avenue. When officers arrived, they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One woman who had been hit in the upper body and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Two other women had been shot in their lower bodies but are expected to recover.

Officials say they hope to reopen roads affected by the massive sinkhole that opened last Thursday in the middle of the famous Sunset Strip in West Hollywood by the end of the week. Speaking to CBS LA, West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman said the target for reopening the area, which is located near Sunset Boulevard and Horn Avenue, is either Thursday or Friday, depending on how repair efforts go.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials say the warehouse fire in Boyle Heights that sparked major concerns about air quality in the area should be extinguished in the near future. While speaking to CBS LA on Tuesday morning, LAFD Captain Jacob Raabe said he expects the blaze to be put out "very shortly" as crews have made "significant progress" on the fire, which started last Wednesday afternoon at the 500,000-square-foot Lineage Big Bear cold storage facility at 1400 S. Los Palos Street.
King tides along Southern California coast cause flooding at Malibu campsite
A campsite in Malibu was flooded on Wednesday morning after king tides along the coast sent waves crashing into the area. Caltrans and the Ventura County Fire Department were called here to Thornhill Broome Beach just before midnight due to flooding. Fortunately, no one was trapped or needed rescuing, but there was quite a bit of water that flooded the campgrounds. Several vehicles were parked in the area as the high tide came rolling in.

A woman was attacked inside her Hollywood Hills home on Thursday night and suspects fled the scene with tens of thousands of dollars stolen, according to police. The Los Angeles Police Department said the incident was reported around 9 p.m. on the 8500 block of Lookout Mountain Avenue, when two suspects allegedly broke into a home. Authorities said the suspects encountered a woman inside and attacked her, attempting to strangle her.

Hollywood movie and TV shoot days drop 16% compared to 2024, FilmLA report finds
Numbers released by FilmLAshow a decrease in local shooting days in 2025, but the organization says there are reasons to be hopeful that production of all sorts could see an increase across Los Angeles. A car smashed into a building in Santa Monica on Thursday night, causing significant damage and displacing a family. The crash happened just after 11 p.m. when a car going down Santa Monica Boulevard somehow lost control and slammed into the building on the corner of Princeton Street, Santa Monica police said. Witnesses told CBS LA the driver was rescued from the car and taken to the hospital. They said he looked stunned, but they couldn't tell how badly injured he was.

A man is dead after a shooting in Venice Wednesday night and now police are looking for the alleged suspect. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Pacific Avenue near Westminster Dog Park around 10:19 p.m. Police said when they arrived at the scene, they found a man who had died from a gunshot wound. Based on evidence they found, they believe the suspect lives in the area.
Sales tax in Los Angeles County increases to 9.75%
Customers in Los Angeles County could see their bills a bit higher starting Tuesday, as sales tax across the county will increase. On April 1, sales tax in LA County will go up from 9.5% to 9.75%. Voters approved the increase back in November 2024. Measure A calls for the sales tax on items like clothing, toys and furniture to go up by half a cent, but since it replaces the temporary quarter cent tax that had in place under Measure H, there will only be a quarter cent raise starting Tuesday.

Police are investigating an early Monday morning burglary in Bel Air, as purses and piles of $100 bills were scattered on the street outside the targeted home. / KCAL News A suspect who shot a man on a Metro Gold Line platform in Boyle Heights carjacked an SUV and crashed a half-mile away before he was arrested Thursday night, police said. A man was standing on the platform at the Metro Gold Line Pico/Aliso station on 1st Street near Utah Street when someone with a gun approached him and fired at about 10 p.m. Thursday. The victim was struck in the leg or foot and ran onto a train. He was later hospitalized in stable condition.

One suspect shot dead, one escapes after early morning home invasion
EVERETT – Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies are continuing to investigate an early morning home invasion in South Everett. Lt. Monte Beaton says two intruders wearing masks reportedly kicked in the front door of a home on Gothic Way. One man living in the home told deputies he thought his roommates were being held at gunpoint, so he fired a few shots with his own weapon. One suspect was killed. The other suspect was injured, but managed to escape.
