By contrast, handwritten or typed scripts for comic strips are inevitably much less desirable.

Review by James Bacon “Heroes” currently running at the Cartoon Museum in London until October, offers a stunning selection of comic art, with many exceptional pieces, as visitors follow the history of comics and the convergence of US and UK comics, commercially and artistically and we see how British artists and writers became so important and prominent and their brilliance appreciated. This is a really interesting and thought-provoking exhibition, which takes a long look at the industry.

Eagle, “The New National Strip Cartoon Weekly”, was launched in April 1950. With the end of the post-war paper rationing this big, tabloid-sized, colourful comic immediately made the small, limited colour, text heavy and illustration light, story papers that to then had dominated newsagents counters for the weekly young boy’s market look very dated.
