Letter: Why isn't congressional delegation bringing down prescription drug costs?
I wonder how many patients out there in our area are taking the medication, Eliquis, a blood thinner? As some may know, the cost is roughly $600-800 dollars per month. The pharmaceutical companies Bristol-Myers and Squibb will not release it for a generic dispensary. The cost for that very same medication in the Netherlands is $5 per month. My pharmacist recommended flying to Denmark or Amsterdam to purchase the drug; for a year, she said, including the flights, I would save money.
Letter: When you do the crime, you need to do the time
As I was perusing The Forum today, I read it with humility and humor. In summation, what a catastrophe this city has become. There was an article about a drive-by shooting; and an article about some young man, who had murdered his mother, and a recent article that stressed the need to let prisoners out of jail, no matter the severity of their charges, due to lack of space.
Letter: Fargo's homeless issue is not state's concern
Finally the Fargo City Commission received the message they should have expected; the state legislature will give them NO money for an expensive homeless shelter. The city was asking for $5 million but would accept $3 million. As one can see they have no concept of real dollars in asking for that amount. I agree with the legislator who finally said, “get rid of the problem”. In years past, the homeless would hang around for awhile and then get back on a train car for brighter destinations.
Letter: How about fixing the Broadway bridge?
To the Fargo City Commission: Have you forgotten north Fargo? After reading The Forum this morning, I can deduce that they are considering sourcing millions of dollars for a convention center to draw thousands of people to attend a convention in Fargo, ND. Why?

Letter: Let Fargo city commissioners know it's time to stop the spending spree
After watching and digesting the information given in The Forum about the Fargo City Commission and the proposed budget, I am compelled to add my two cents. If anyone has followed the budget process over the last few years, one would realize that the spending has never stayed in the confines of each proposed budget, year after year. The mayor's budget has been exceeded in nearly all of the last few years without the addition of COVID dollars. Isn't that amazing?

Letter: Here's an idea for addressing homelessness in downtown Fargo
As I was driving home yesterday on Fourth Street, going by the Civic Center and the Downtown Engagement Center, a solution for the homeless came to light. On one side of the street is a center for homeless individuals that supports those individuals that seek help.

Letter: Failure of Fargodome expansion and renovation vote came as no surprise
I cannot say that I’m surprised at both the turnout and outcome of the Fargodome expansion vote. After what is going on with the economy and increased expenditures, the vote shouldn’t have surprised anyone, with the exception of marginal winning outcome. It’s time that public entities start to be run like a real business and not relying on the pocketbooks of citizenry to continuously bail them out.

Letter: Fargo's budget woes should come as no surprise
It comes as no surprise to many that the budget is broke for Fargo. If memory doesn’t fail, one will remember Tony Gehrig’s warnings about future budget shortfalls, with the loss of revenue by the ever popular Renaissance Zone tax breaks for businesses that didn’t need it. The chicken has now come home to roost and no one should be surprised by what’s happened.

Letter: Hennen isn't alone in bidding Minnesota goodbye
I am responding to Mr. Hempeck's letter to the editor regarding his sarcastic e motional goodbye to Mr. Hennen . He states that any fact-based, forward-thinking Minnesotan will not miss him. What about the forward-thinking 19,400 other citizens that left Minnesota in 2022? " New Census Bureau data show that our State smashed this (exodus) record in 2022.
Letter: Chief David Zibolski and Sheriff Jesse Jahner have different views of safety in Fargo
It appears to me that our police chief and county sheriff are at odds about violent crime in Fargo. Our illustrious Fargo Police Department Chief David Zibolski apparently thinks our violent crime is decreasing, that the city streets are safe and that if they did not report it, we, the citizens, would not know about it. What? He states he would not be afraid to walk the city streets at any hour of the day. The fact that he is armed may shade that comment.
Letter: Why does The Forum employ someone who clearly hates this community?
I am not certain, but it might be that The Forum, North Dakota’s No. 1 newspaper, is the only North Dakota newspaper that employs a columnist that simply hates North Dakota: Mike McFeely. I, personally, am tired of reading his hateful, front and center columns on the Opinion page, continuously, when I sit down to start the day with a cup of coffee and peruse The Forum. He does nothing but espouse his disdain for everything North Dakota, which he, personally, knows nothing of.
Letter: The realities of a discriminatory electric vehicle mandate in Minnesota
As of this past summer, Minnesota is now officially the first Midwestern state to adopt California’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Program, a mandate spearheaded by Gov. Tim Walz. The intended goal of this program is to increase the sale and consumption of electric vehicles in Minnesota to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This government-directed mandate will put a requirement on the amount of electric vehicles bought and sold on Minnesota car lots.
Letter: The Republican infestation
When your home is infested with termites you are completely unaware of the damage they are doing to the foundation of your home. As the strength of the beams and basement diminishes you go happily about your life. Republican termites are eating the foundation of our democracy one bite at a time. Voter suppression is a subtle means to make sure only the right candidates are elected. Gerrymandering is a process that takes place in the dark and destroys the democracy our founders imagined.
Letter: It's nice to see Tony Bender write something that's not dripping with sarcasm
By Todd Gross January 12, 2022 11:00 AM I would like just congratulate Tony Bender on the excellent article in Wednesday's Forum on Hunter Pinke . I had no idea he did anything except sarcastic, sometimes entertaining, columns. Well done, Tony. It was a pleasure to read and understand his plight. Todd Gross lives in Fargo. This letter does not necessarily reflect the opinion of The Forum's editorial board nor Forum ownership.
Letter: Forum photographer grabbed the perfect shot of an outstanding Bison play
North Dakota State's Destin Talbert makes an end zone interception against James Madison during their NCAA FCS semifinal football playoff game Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, in Fargo. Michael Vosburg/Forum Communications Co. When high expectations become the norm, it can be easy to overlook a great performance. Take North Dakota State University cornerback Destin Talbert’s one-handed interception in the end zone during Friday’s semi-final game against James Madison University.
Letter: 'The Bluest Eye' has no place in required reading assignments
It was brought to my attention that a highly controversial book, “ The Bluest Eye ,” is being used in Fargo's high school curriculum. In particular, Fargo North High School A parent's daughter was given this book as a required reading assignment. Why in the world would a book depicting graphic incest and child molestation be used in a high school curriculum? And what sick individual gives this garbage as a “reading assignment “ to impressionable little girls?
Letter: North Dakota makes yet another top 10 list
December 21, 2021 10:37 AM Through remarkable leadership by Gov. Burgum and our Republican legislature, North Dakota has reached No. 2 among the states in per capita COVID infections. We may yet overcome No. 1 Tennessee. Contending to become the sickest state in the country is no small feat. You need to keep vaccinations low through ensuring that they are not required and to keep people from wearing masks when out in public.
Letter: Coal association admits it's risky to depend on federal dollars and subsidies
On Dec. 8th, members of the Coal Conversion Counties association sent a letter to Gov. Burgum urging him to block funding to retrofit the Dakota Gasification plant to produce hydrogen. The leaders argued that converting the gasification to hydrogen could disrupt coal mining jobs at the nearby Freedom Mine.
Letter: A rebuttal to Zaleski's arrogant vaccine directive
Dear Jack: I read, with some disdain, your op-ed in The Forum this morning, and it affected me negatively. Therefore, I need to send a mild rebuttal to your arrogant directive. Your figure of 30% of our nation being non-vaccinated must be an estimate, but your calling them “unpatriotic, selfish, and dangerous” is extremely agonizing, and narcissistic. Just who named you czar, in charge of U.S. healthcare?
Letter: The lion culls the herd of the infirm and stupid
To those opposed to getting the vaccination and booster against the COVID virus, I offer this analogy because I am really fed up with you: "The lion culls the herd of the infirm and stupid." In 2020, the COVID "lion" mostly culled the infirm from the US. In 2021, it started going after the stupid.
Letter: A solution for Sanford
Letters Todd Gross writes, "As an outsider, it appears to be an easy fix for shortages of professional personnel: Pay them better or treat them better." Written By: Todd Gross | 12:00 pm, Sep. 19, 2021 × Sanford in Crisis? That's according to their vice president, but I doubt that. They have a critical shortage of 200 nurses and other staff. Why has that happened? Large turnover? They are paying “locum staff” at much higher rates than regular staff.
Letter: I'm opposed to federal dollars being used for abortions
Letters Gross writes that he does not oppose abortion, but he does have a problem using federal dollars to get one. Written By: Todd Gross | 9:11 am, Sep. 7, 2021 × This common fight going on between the Conservatives (Republicans) and Liberals (Democrats) over the abortion issue is way beyond religious connotations, approaching stupidity and lethargy. Abortions have been legal since approximately 1972. Let it go, already. Women’s rights commandos versus religious Bible thumpers needs correction.
Letter: Gun violence can be stopped
Letters I don’t care about crowded prison conditions. Build them bigger. It would add jobs to our economy. If you don’t like the conditions of the prisons, don’t do the crimes. Written By: Todd Gross | 8:15 am, Jul. 14, 2021 × As most of us have noticed, gun violence in the country, and Fargo, has increased astronomically in the last few years. I will make no mention of the culprits nationality, nor skin color, as that is irrelevant with violence.
Letter: Tony Bender entertains no one but himself
Letters He seems to be entertaining an audience of one in his bathroom, with his attempt at Don Rickles-style humor. Written By: Todd Gross | 12:00 pm, Jun. 3, 2021 × When are you going to tire of Tony Binder's (dang autocorrect) cynicism-style writing posture? He belongs on a liberal college campus as a permanent visiting professor, not on the pages of a highly intelligent newspaper. He seems to be entertaining an audience of one in his bathroom, with his attempt at Don Rickles-style humor.
Letter: The gun violence blame game
Letters You suggest boycotting businesses that advertise weapons, guns. I would suggest that not one hunter murdered anyone last year. Written By: Todd Gross | 10:57 am, Mar. 31, 2021 × Regarding Beth Ann Volk’s letter: Yes, Beth, we are all sick and tired of the gun violence that’s taking place in this area, and, more so, in the U.S. If you want to place blame, I would suggest that you look at the overall picture.
Letter: Does McFeely like anything about ND?
For the life of me, I cannot understand the rationale of putting Mike McFeely’s opinion on the front page of The Forum, which, is, by the way, a North Dakota newspaper. Just about every article he writes about North Dakota is derisive and negative. His distaste for North Dakota politics, which is, by nature, conservative, is obvious and will never affect the political or economic atmosphere in the state.
Letter: Stop with the criticism unless you have a better plan
Letters Written By: Todd Gross | May 15th 2020 - 8am. × I see that our illustrious ex-Sen. Byron Dorgan is opining, once again blaming President Trump for the problems of the country. This time it's for the lack of testing in the coronavirus outbreak.
Letter: Sanford's D rating should alarm us all
I read the headline news Feb. 18 that expounded on the D rating that was given to all Sanford Hospitals in North Dakota. The Leapfrog Group discussed the infection rate at those hospitals, and gave them a “failing grade”! Sanford leadership disputes the rankings. Of course they do, it’s their livelihood at stake. If they were truly an invisible administration, they would allow employees to participate in that discussion, but that won’t happen, in my opinion.
Making 50-years Decisions Today: Preparing for the Largest Wealth Transfer in History Among African American Families
My parents were among the first generation of Americans to benefit from landmark civil rights rulings and legislation. Even though those milestones occurred decades in the past, the material fruits of that progress are just now becoming apparent, and it’s happening right across the table from me. When I’m working on a wealth transfer plan with a family, I tell them they’re making 50-year decisions.
