History repeats itself, Karl Marx once wrote, first as tragedy, then as farce. I don't believe he was thinking about the Beach Boys when he wrote that, but he was particularly prescient if not. Back in 1980, one of the great music journalists, Nick Kent, went to interview his hero Brian Wilson for the NME (Kids, the NME was a music magazine.
