Dogs were widely distributed across western Eurasia during the Palaeolithic
Abstract Archaeological evidence suggests that dogs diverged from wolves during the Palaeolithic, more than 15,000 years ago1,2,3,4,5,6,7. The earliest unequivocal genetic evidence, however, is associated with dog remains from Mesolithic archaeological contexts approximately 10,900 years ago8,9.
Buca della Iena and Grotta del Capriolo: new chronological, lithic, and faunal analyses of two late Mousterian sites in Central Italy
Abstract New radiocarbon, lithic, faunal, and documentary analyses of two sites, Buca della Iena and Grotta del Capriolo, excavated in the 1970s, enhance our understanding of late Neanderthal settlement in the northwestern Italian peninsula and provide insights into their demise. Reassessment of stratigraphical and fieldwork documentation identified areas of stratigraphic reliability, supporting robust interpretations.
Chronometric data and stratigraphic evidence support discontinuity between Neanderthals and early Homo sapiens in the Italian Peninsula - Nature Communications
Abstract The process by which Palaeolithic Europe was transformed from a Neanderthal-dominated region to one occupied exclusively by Homo sapiens has proven challenging to diagnose. A blurred chronology has made it difficult to determine when Neanderthals disappeared and whether modern humans overlapped with them.
Ancient Rapanui genomes reveal resilience and pre-European contact with the Americas - Nature
Abstract Rapa Nui (also known as Easter Island) is one of the most isolated inhabited places in the world. It has captured the imagination of many owing to its archaeological record, which includes iconic megalithic statues called moai1. Two prominent contentions have arisen from the extensive study of Rapa Nui. First, the history of the Rapanui has been presented as a warning tale of resource overexploitation that would have culminated in a major population collapse—the ‘ecocide’ theory2,3,4.

Plus Minus Kilkakrotnie czytałem doniesienie o odkryciu w Denisowej Jaskinii. Byłem całkowicie osłupiały, że jakimś sposobem gdzieś w Eurazji żyła niegdyś jeszcze jedna grupa ludzi. Jak archeolodzy mogli ją przegapić? Czy to rzeczywiście mogła być prawda? Aktualizacja: 05.04.2024 17:02 Publikacja: 05.04.2024 17:00 To niewiarygodne, ale zespół badaczy wykonał swoją pracę na próbce kości ważącej zaledwie 40 miligramów; tyle mniej więcej waży półtora ziarnka ryżu.
The British Supersport title defence is on! — Ben Currie
It’s been a long preseason here in the UK for me. And a lot has gone into it. I elected not to return back home to Australia for a break but to start my preseason training early with my Trainer Kirk Gibbons. We really needed to get ahead and get on top of my fitness and to make more steps on my back as last year there wasn’t enough time to fully recover after my injuries. But we’ve done some fantastic work and we’re an amazing position now.

An elusive ghost: Searching for the Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo) in the past of Britain
3 THE EAGLE OWL IN BRITAIN As mentioned, the Eagle Owl can at most be regarded as a rare vagrant in contemporary Britain. Melling et al. (2008) consider the recent rare cases of Eagle Owl nidifications in Britain (Penterani & del Mar Delgado, 2019, p. 67) more likely to be the consequence of individuals escaped from captivity than a consequence of natural vagrancy but Warburton (2010) gives far more credit to the hypothesis of breeding as a consequence of natural dispersal.
Savings Rates Reaching Inflection Point, but Savers Stick While Rates Are Rising
Sarah Coles, senior personal finance analyst. Hargreaves Lansdown: “We are rapidly reaching the inflection point in the savings market. The gap between what we’re making on our cash and what we could make in a fixed rate account, is reaching the point where people say they’re prepared to fix. However, in reality, savers tend to prove much stickier while rates are rising – and risk missing out on a better rate.

Back to the Island… again! — Carl Cox Motorsport
Despite ‘closing’ his residency at DC10 in Ibiza at 7am, Carl was adamant he wanted to get over to the Isle of Man (his third visit in a couple of months!) to see the unique Manx Grand Prix and his ‘main man’ Michael Dunlop.

This 'superhydrophobic' spray-on coating creates a barrier repelling not just water, but also mud, ice and even mustard and fizzy drinks. Although a similar video was seen a couple of years ago, the product is finally ready for the public (at least in the US) to buy and gathering interest.

BikeSafe Rider Training by Tom Higham
I passed my bike test on a KH100 as a spotty 17-year old back in the late 90s, when Britpop ruled the radio and Mick Doohan the track. Before the days of A1 and A2 licenses, once you passed your test you could go and ride any bike. My bikes have steadily grown in engine capacity since, but my training stalled as anything further wasn’t legally required. Twenty years later I decided to get a refresher on my riding skills.

The Viking Great Army in England: new dates from the Repton charnel
Archaeological evidence for the Viking Great Army that invaded England in AD 865 is focused particularly on the area around St Wystan's church at Repton in Derbyshire. Large numbers of burials excavated here in the 1980s have been attributed to the overwintering of the Great Army in AD 873–874. Many of the remains were deposited in a charnel, while others were buried in graves with Scandinavian-style grave goods.
The Age and Context of the KC4 Maxilla, Kent's Cavern, UK
Kent's Cavern is one of Britain's most important Palaeolithic sites. The Torquay Natural History Society excavations in the Vestibule (1926–1928 and 1932–1938) yielded Middle and Early Upper Palaeolithic deposits as well as a fragment of human jaw (KC4). Higham et al. (2011) recently identified it as the oldest modern human fossil known from North West Europe, with a date estimated, using Bayesian modelling, at 44,200–41,500 cal bp (at 95.4% probability).
Diabetes is Tough, but it’s all about Perspective
At the age of 6, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. For the uninitiated, Type 1 is not caused by lifestyle choices like eating too much crap. It is a genetic condition, still largely unexplained, and can appear fairly randomly. Put simply, Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where your pancreas essentially stops working. For more info, this is the best explanation on the internet. I vividly remember the moment I was diagnosed.
